Introduction
Many years ago when I first experienced my dental and facial related trauma, I was unable to remember previous facts and information and the names of colleagues whom I’d worked with for five years. Plus, I was in constant pain. My jaw, face and head were incredibly painful, so painful that I couldn’t touch my scalp or face. I surfed the internet in search for information, blogs and personal experiences on how people dealt with similar health concerns that I was going through.
There was limited information on the internet and whatever I found was negative and depressing. There were tiny bits of information here and there, but nothing conclusive or all encompassing. As a result, I decided to create a blog about my Temporomandibular Jaw Joint Replacement (TMJ) because a blog was a suitable way to create an on-line diary of my experience. I utilized a free blog website and created my own blog with a positive focus and set a goal to help at least one person. I documented my physical, mental, and emotional journey for over a year. Many readers contacted me through the contact form on my blog and thanked me for my contribution and others reached out to me for support and guidance. My blog not only allowed me to help those in need, but also expanded to include their friends and family who wanted to know how they could help their loved ones. Soon, my goal became to help anyone who had TMJ problems.
After a year of documenting my journey through my blog, my recovery stabilized and reached a plateau. My surgeon was pleased with my progress and declared that I was in a ‘holding pattern’ which meant that I had recovered as much as possible from the surgery and that I would not need to see him for another year. I found that I had no new information to post on my blog. Based on the positive feedback that I had received from my readers, I knew that my blog was helping others. I soon realized that I needed to take a new direction in order to continue to reach out and help others. I didn’t want my
