To my wife, June, she tries to understand her crazy husband.
Chapter One
My usual day at school becomes unusual.
My name is Marty Fisk. I’m the seventh grader who sits in the back of the schoolroom and daydreams, unless I fall asleep, which I’m about to do.
To stay awake I sneak out my Smart Phone and continue writing the greatest science fiction epic of all epics, Captain Dan Dazzle of the Planet Patrol. And as always, his arch enemy, Vor the Powerful from the XYZ Star System, is still out to conquer every habitable planet in the universe.
Let’s see, I was beginning Chapter Six. Here we go.
Captain Dan Dazzle of the Planet Patrol Fights Vor the Powerful
My journey from Rigel 4 had been long and boring, so for general excitement I decided to fly an inspection orbit around Mars before touching down on Earth. As I entered the Martian atmosphere I had no idea that I was in for a battle until a ray blast cut across the bow of my little ship.
The second the attack came I slapped down hard on the steering rockets. Maneuvering the ship up high out of the Martian atmosphere took me safely away for the moment. But who had fired at me?
Flicking a switch to activate the scout’s forward viewscreen revealed a spaceship invasion fleet. I flicked another switch and heard a voice I knew only too well. It was Vor the Powerful, and as usual he was gloating.
This is Vor, your all powerful and wonderful leader. All spaceships start lining up in the sections that you have memorized. We shall conquer the puny planet Earth.
Vor the Powerful, that infamous villain! How dare he call my home planet puny? It was time to let them know who I was. Attention, Vor, this is Captain Dan Dazzle of the Earth’s Planet Patrol. Stop your invasion or be destroyed. You have sixty seconds Earth time to make your decision.
You, Marty Fisk, have less than sixty seconds to stop writing your silly epic and pay attention to what’s going on in my classroom.
Uh, oh…Mr. Blu had sneaked behind me and read some of my epic. I was in real trouble.
He jerked the Smart Phone from my sweating hands and slowly walked with it to his desk. He gently put it next to his grade book and stared holes in my skull.
If, Marty Fisk, you would stop writing science fiction trash and do some real concentrating you would not have the one hundred sentences I have just this moment decided to give you. See me at recess and we will discuss what you are to write. I said write. That means no computerized sentences. And I can assure you, that while your sentences will be epic in length, they will certainly not be about science fiction.
Oh boy. This would be the second set of sentences Mr. Blu has given me in less than a week. What will my mother and father say this time?
I sat back, listened to Mr. Blu drone knowledge to the class and wondered why, when there must be a gazillion teachers in the world, why was I so unlucky as to be in his classroom?
By all appearances I would say Mr. Blu looked perfectly normal. According to what he told us he was a half inch over six feet tall, and he always said he was underweight, even though he had a potbelly. He joked about his stomach and said it marched a quarter of a mile ahead of the rest of his body. He had blue eyes capable of boring holes through you. His hair was brown, cut short, and showing bald spots on top of his head.
Anyway, back to the day I received more sentences. Class went
