    About the Author

    Brittle Flames

Angela was on fire. Painting made her feel fully alive. She loaded the wooden brush with straight cadmium green and touched it to the 18 by 24 canvas, turning the tool while stroking it along the tree trunks. Twisting the brush just enough to keep the tip from widening out. The painting wanted the vivid spring green color to be complete. She’d been working on it since dawn and felt invigorated. A classic guitar program played on the radio and she lost herself in the work. And this was the last of the 78 paintings for the tarot deck. Her contribution would be complete.

She needed to leave the dingy, gray room and turn the fan back on. The fumes from the paints, linseed oil and mineral spirits were beginning to get to her, but she hated the noise from the fan. Someday, she’d buy one of her own, one that was quiet. Someday, she’d have a proper studio.
