      The light was dull – time to stop painting.

      Valerie gave her day’s work a final look over before spraying it with a fast drying lacquer coating.

      All the day’s onlookers had gone and the section of park where this bus shelter stood was quiet. Few cars had gone past during the day. Only buses stopped here for people going down to the river. Traffic noise carried from the main road but she had tuned that out of her mind. Powerboat operators on the river opened the throttles on the engines as the river straightened out, but they were infrequent.
