Morgan King

Morgan is a woman of many hats, both of the physical and the metaphorical kind. She juggles being a writer—there are several titles and genres to check out; a reader—seriously it’s an addiction; a mother—yay for playing Lego; a self-employed businesswoman—a bit of this and a bit of that, normally third sector related—and a Yorkshire pudding and coffee consumer. She is always happy to say “hello” to readers, although is most reachable during UK contact hours being a Brit.

    DEDICATION

This short story came straight from the heart and goes out to anyone who has had to move on from a relationship and risk their heart again. I’d also like to thank all those readers who bought a copy of my first book Duty to Love and encouraged me to risk writing more.

    Chapter One

Tom sat in his office the whole day long thinking one thought, or at least there was only one thought he remembered thinking; everything else was cognitive process in order to do his job or talk to others: Today would be the day.

He was going to take the plunge. He was going to ask Jax if he was still interested in going out with him sometime.

It was twelve months since Jax had suggested they go for a drink. As soon as he had started working for Phillips and Reistrom he had made his interest in Tom clear, nothing inappropriate, especially given that Tom was one of the two partners who owned the company, but looks and smiles just for him and the suggestion they go out for a drink some time. Just them, not a Friday night after work group sort of thing.

Tom had said something about being too busy, not being available right then. Had he been too busy? He was always too busy. That hadn’t changed. Had he been available? Technically yes.

Looking back he must have been insane to turn Jax down, especially when he conjured an image of Jax in his mind. He was a sex god personified. So fit his muscles were evident whatever clothes he wore. Tanned skin from working outside so much of the day. Dark, dark hair trimmed short so that Tom knew it would be soft and silky while brushing up against his touch. A cheeky grin and green eyes, remarkably warm due to the flecks of yellow in them.

    Not that Tom
