About this ebook

What readers are saying about Episode 1:

“If you are looking for a great romance written in short story format then look no further.”
“The characters are well written and I couldn't put it down.”

When Madeline Connors stepped off the plane in London, she stepped into a whole new world--a dark and dangerous world that had only ever existed for her in books and movies. When she met Alexander, one look into his crystal blue eyes and she was lost, in love before she even knew his name. But Madeline had been hurt before, and though her body was willing, her heart was cautious.

Alexander knew he should stay away from Madeline for her own good. He had enemies, and he knew they would use her against him. But the passion in her emerald eyes and the call of her blood was too much for him. Even though he knew that falling in love with her would expose her to danger, he couldn't stay away. He’d wanted to ease her into his world gently, to give her the choice, but in a moment of brutal violence, Madeline's life changed forever.

Would she decide to be with Alexander, despite the danger? Or would she let her fear drive her away?

Excerpt:

Madeline could feel Alexander's body tense against her as the kiss deepened, and then his lips left hers, trailing down to the line of her throat. Madeline let her head fall back, losing herself in the feel of his mouth on her skin, his hands on her body. She heard him groan, a sound of need and frustration, and a shiver coursed through her body, her knees going weak. If it weren’t for his embrace, she was certain she would’ve melted into a puddle at his feet. His breath feathered across the skin at her throat as he nibbled gently, and her arms came up, cradling him to her. Then there was a sudden, white hot whip of pain, followed instantly by an all consuming, searing pleasure that made her cry out.

Alexander lost himself in her, in the taste of her blood, in the feel of her slender body, pliant in his arms. She surrounded him, consumed him, and he knew that, as strong as he was, as powerful as he’d become, she would forever rule him, would forever be able to command him with barely a whisper. He nearly forgot what he was doing, how close he was to taking her where she would not want to go yet, when he felt danger’s approach. His every nerve jangled in warning and he pulled away from her, a growl rumbling low in his throat. “Madeline,” he whispered huskily, “look at me.” She did so without question, meeting his molten blue eyes. “Sleep,” he commanded, and her world fell away into darkness.

Writing is the ultimate escape from reality. You can read or watch a movie, but you're not truly immersed in another world like you are when you're creating one. When I'm not writing, I'm wishing I was and when I'm writing I'm living another life. There's some of me in every female character who lets me write her story--some more than others, but I'll never tell which ones. In my other lives I'm a sexy vampire, a powerful witch, an independent werewolf or a seductive human. I can be anyone and anything I want, and who wouldn't want to do that? My genre of preference is fantasy romance. I became infatuated with vampires in high school when I read a book about a girl, who'd recently been turned, who allowed herself to die in the first rays of dawn rather than feed on the boy with whom she'd fallen in love. I remember that part vividly because I thought it was the most beautiful depiction of unconditional and unrequited love that I'd ever read. I promptly devoured every book with vampires in it that I could get my hands on (in my age range, of course). At the time I wasn’t interested in romance novels, and eventually I ran out of teen vampire stories, so I tried my hand at writing one. Over the years, my characters and stories have matured with me. At first, the only characters I met were vampires, but eventually, other characters came to me, and I discovered I had a thing for tall, dark and handsome aliens as well. I spend so much time with my characters that they become real to me, and all my friends and family have gotten used to me talking about them that way. Thankfully, if they think I’m crazy, they keep it to themselves. I’ve also been very lucky in love. For 26 years, I’ve been with the same wonderful man who is very tolerant of the fact that I fall in love with the leading men in my books.

Etienne ran into the bedroom and slammed the door, sliding the lock into place. She could hear Basil’s footfalls chasing after her, pounding up the stairs, and she backed away as he approached the door.

"Let me in! he demanded. Etienne, don’t think you can keep me out of my own bedchamber."

"Go away, Basil! she cried. I made a mistake. I’m going to have this marriage annulled!"

She jumped when something slammed against the door. The wood shook, and her eyes widened when she saw a crack. He slammed into it again, and the crack widened. A third blow and the door splintered and broke. Basil stood there, glaring at her, and she shivered at the demon red glow of his eyes, the brutal gleam of his fangs.

"You are mine! he hissed. I love you and I mean to keep you."

"You are a monster, Basil! Etienne argued, backing away from him. Please, just leave me be."

Basil stepped into the room through the broken door and advanced on her steadily. You didn’t think I was a monster when you were crying my name in the darkness, he pointed out. Did you think I was a monster when you were thrashing beneath me?

"Basil, how dare you bring that up? That wasn’t me. You did something to my mind, made me do those things."

Basil seized her, dragging her into his embrace, and kissed her, bending her back with the force of his passion. That was all you, Etienne, he rasped, and I’ll prove it to you. With one hand, he grasped the bodice of her gown and tore it open, baring her to his hot gaze. Etienne tried to twist away as he lowered his head

Madeline looked up, surprised to realize that they had arrived in England. She glanced at her watch. Where had the time gone? She dog-eared the page and glanced at the cover, which boasted a man and a woman in Civil War garb, locked in a passionate embrace. She laughed softly at herself. She’d let her mother give her the book rather than argue with her, certain she’d never even get past the first page, but she’d been so enthralled in the bodice-ripper that she hadn’t even noticed the last two hours of the flight race past. Silly romance with vampires in it. What nonsense. Still, she really should finish reading it. Otherwise, she’d always wonder what had happened to Etienne and her spice-named man. Feeling slightly foolish, she slipped the book into her bag.

After the usual organized chaos that disembarking from a plane entailed, Madeline found herself in the main airport terminal. It was crowded, but she didn’t care. She was on vacation and was in no hurry. She pushed through the crowd as best as she could, towing her large suitcase behind her, headed for the bank of glass doors at the front of the terminal. The strap of her carry-on bag began to slip and she paused a moment to shift its weight, settling it more securely over her shoulder. It was only a moment’s distraction, but it was enough. She hadn’t gotten three steps when she collided with a man and fell to the ground with a very annoyed, very un-ladylike grunt. Frustrated, she sat up, blowing an errant lock of ebony hair out of her eyes, and glared up at the man, standing over her with a slightly amused expression on his face.

Are you all right? he asked, reaching over and snaring her suitcase before it was lost in the flow of passersby.

Thank you, Madeline said grudgingly. She didn’t want to be thankful to this man—she wanted to be angry, and she glowered up at him determinedly. And, yes, I’m fine. The first thing I wanted to do on my vacation was sit on this beautiful—not to mention cold—tile floor! She was already angry at her inelegant position on the airport floor, and her temper flared even more when he chuckled! Do you think this is funny?! she demanded.

She could tell he was trying not to smile as he leaned down and took her hand, pulling her easily to her feet. Of course I don’t think it’s funny that you fell, he said, and I’m very sorry.

Madeline stilled as she came face to face with him. The moment their eyes met she felt a shock, a spark racing along her nerve endings. His eyes were the most beautiful shade of glacier-ice blue and she was riveted, drawn into their fathomless depths and she felt herself sway toward him. She wrenched away from that magnetic gaze and looked down at their hands, the way his held hers so gently, so carefully, yet firmly. She shook herself mentally and pulled her hand from his as delicately as she could. To try to hide her sudden nervousness, she reached for her suitcase, chagrined to realize that she was trembling. She gave herself another mental shake and self-consciously cleared her throat. Well, I’m okay, so don’t worry about it.

At least allow me to escort you to your hotel, he offered, I have a car waiting.

Madeline glanced at him out of the corner of her eye. Is that why you slammed into me? she asked, a wry smile curving her lips, very proud that her voice wasn’t quivering like her body was. So you could ask me out? Does that work on other women?

He laughed, breaking the tension. No. Usually I just throw them over my shoulder and carry them off to my lair, but I have a feeling that would be frowned upon in an airport these days.

Madeline got a very sudden, very clear image of herself in his arms being carried away, and she shuddered, feeling her heart skip a beat. Lair? That was an unusual word to use. What the hell was going on with her? Why was she so attracted to this man? She’d just met him and she realized she didn’t even know his name yet. She was usually so cautious with men, having been burned before. She was in no hurry to repeat past mistakes, no matter how handsome he was, how broad his shoulders were, how thick his amazing blond hair was. She glanced up at him and her gaze fell on his sensuous mouth, and she wondered wildly what it would be like to kiss him, to have his lips on her skin, to—she squeezed her eyes shut, yanking herself back to reality. It was the book, she decided. That damn book! She realized he was still waiting for an answer. No, I think I’ll just take a cab to my hotel,
