Preface
The three primary elements to this story; cage fighting nuns, tanks, epic love story; seem pretty incongruous. So I feel like I have to explain.
Matthew Inman, is something of an online celebrity, being the author of The Oatmeal online comic (it’s terrific, look it up) and it’s associated books, etc. I have to give credit (or blame) for those three story elements to him.
He put out a comic a while back, discussing how to gain internet fame, with specific focus on Facebook Likes
. If you are reading this sometime in the faraway future, where Facebook is no longer a thing, let me explain.
Someone posts something on the social network known as Facebook, and then people can click a Like
button to show that they like that particular picture, post, or comment. People getting lots of Likes for something is considered a good thing. Mostly.
In Matt’s Oatmeal comic, there is a panel towards the end of the sequence, that mentions the three story elements. Specifically: Write an epic love story involving cage fighting nuns and tanks! …..If I saw any of these things on the internet I would click the Like button so hard Facebook’s servers would poop their pants.
I was completely amused by this comic at the time, but didn’t give it much more thought. Then a month or so later, I stumbled upon it again, and decided to write about those three things, thinking to garner internet fame, and fortune. In the form of Likes, of course.
I got on the social site Google Plus, and posted my intent to do so, inviting any other fellow writers to participate along with me, as it would be fun. I gave the instruction to use the hashtag #cagefightingnunstanksepiclovestory .
Needless to say, since I hadn’t struck while the concept was new, I had few participants. My
