Preface
This book/workbook has been inspired by the numerous people who have asked me, after I have told them that I have written a book, How do I go about writing my own book? Where do I go? What do I do? How much does it cost to self- publish?
And so on. The only reason I know where to go, what the shortcuts are, and how much it costs, is that I have done a course on writing and self-publication, and have completed several books since then. Having completed this course, I came to the realisation that, what I had learnt, how the course was delivered, and what I personally needed in a course or webinar, was very different indeed, to what was delivered. I had a different learning style. I realised that others may have had a similar experience to mine. I wanted to be able to deliver a very simple approach to writing and self-publishing a book, in a cost-effective manner. The cost of delivery of the course that I had attended, even though we were a beta testing group, was out of the reach of many people who wanted to be able to achieve 'author status' on a budget. So, hence this combined book/work-book.
In saying this, when I wrote this particular book, I followed the steps that are outlined in the book religiously, so that I knew that the steps could be followed easily, and that if I needed to change the order of the steps, I was able to do so before publication. You can, literally, write your book from this book/workbook. There are pages for you to make notes. There are specific websites to go to in order to hire contractors for your project.
I have even made an audio program for those who are more auditory- (coming soon) and you can purchase this separately from the website attached to this book:
https://www.howtowriteabook1.com
https://www.howtopublish1.com
This book/workbook is primarily for non-fiction writers, for example writing about pets, self- help, motivation, travel, cooking, biographies, history, countries, any topic you can name.
In saying that, if you are a fiction writer, you will still gain benefit as to how to go about setting out each chapter, where to go to hire your contractors, setting up your titles, domain names, website and so on. It does not teach anything about development of your characters, or plot development. However, plot development follows naturally from setting out your chapters.
I do understand that there are perfectionists out there who are so concerned with what others may think of their 'attempt' at writing, that they agonise over every little step
