Copple played in his own make-believe world, writing the stories and drawing the art for his own comics while experiencing the worlds of other authors like Tolkien, Lewis, Asimov, and Lester Del Ray. After years of writing devotionally, he returned to the passion of his youth in order to combine his created worlds and faith into the reality of the printed page. What Heroes Are Made Of
This story picks up at end of my novel, Mind Game, but before Hero Game. Mind Game told the story of how Jeremy, Mickey, and Bridget were trapped in a virtual game that interacted with reality, and how they escaped. This story relates how they ended up fighting crime as virtual superheroes.

Jeremy passed a bush. The leaves rustled, then someone whispered, Jeremy.
Both Jeremy and Mickey stopped and peered at the bush in the dusk of a late Montana evening. A head pushed its way out. He wore sunglasses and a hat like an old 1920's gangster. As the man left the bushes he revealed a black suit coat and pants to match.
Jeremy, I need your help,
the man said in an exaggerated Bogart accent.
Jeremy glanced at Mickey, who shrugged. Jeremy stared at the man. Me?
The man took off the hat and glasses.
Holbreth? What on Zori are you doing here?
I'm afraid we need your help again.
He smiled.
But it has only been a month since escaping the Mind Game. Don't tell me Zori is in danger again already?
Holbreth didn't seem distressed. Best to explain in our ship.
He nudged his head for them to follow and headed into the woods.
Jeremy shook his head and fell into step, Mickey behind him. They followed Holbreth until they reached a hidden clearing in the park.
Holbreth pulled out a small box and pushed a button. A ship appeared. A higher class ship than the Eagle, from the looks of it. Holbreth motioned for them to follow him up the entry ramp.
I'm not too sure I want to get on another ship for a while.
Mickey frowned.
I know, but it's Holbreth. We can trust him.
Remember what you said about trusting too easily? How do we know it's Holbreth?
Good point. But, I'm willing to risk it. We aren't getting connected to a virtual machine anyway.
Mickey sighed and nodded. They ascended the ramp.
Surprise!
a chorus of voices rang out. Lights flashed on.
A birthday party? How did you guys know it was my birthday?
Jeremy stared wide-eyed at everyone.
Benlung grinned, as much as an insect could. The Zorians have your complete history on computer. They probably know what brand of grape juice you prefer.
The crowd parted and Bridget hopped out. Surprise, BJ!
She approached him and placed a box wrapped with ribbons into Jeremy's hands.
So, you're in on this too, I see.
Jeremy scanned the group. Their familiar faces sent warm feelings through him. He unwrapped and opened the box. He pulled out a full head mask. Jeremy wrinkled his brow. What's this?
Holbreth stepped forward and held it up. It's the latest rage in virtual superheroes. You put it on and you can become any number of superheroes you need to be.
He smiled.
Jeremy frowned. I don't know if I like that idea.
Mickey said, Oh no, this is cool, Bucko. You don't leave the planet, but you put it on and you can go virtually fight crime.
Fight crime? Me?
Yes,
Holbreth said. No matter how many times a criminal kills you, you can reappear and come back at them again. It's the perfect superhero.
Jeremy scratched his head. I don't know. This sounds so corny.
Holbreth lowered his head. "We saw
