About this ebook

The genre of the book is drama. The story tells the account of Jamie London who wakes up one morning to find his world spiralling out of control. His efforts to overcome the hurdles in life lead to unforeseen and hilarious consequences, and take him to places he never wished to visit in the first place. His exasperation is reflected in his reluctance to give the annual report to a disbelieving audience, and in an overheated environment it’s delivered in uproarious circumstances. Like many in austere times Jamie has lost his job, and with it his dignity and self-esteem. Rosie, his long suffering wife, has succumbed to the charms of an affluent young accountant, and Jamie finds himself joining forces with Rab Sawyers, a publican, and small-time crook.

In a reckless attempt to restore the balance, Jamie signs up to whatever Sawyers has to offer, and invariably finds himself taking the law into his own hands. Altercations with Benny Carsdale and Oscar Mollino lead to confrontations on the shop floors, while the more sedate exchanges with old Victor unveil a salutary tale of over indulgence. The book reflects the austerity and reality of the city on the one hand, but does it with humour and farce in abundance on the other. Jamie’s addiction to football, his weakness for the opposite sex, and the fact he spends half his life drinking beer down the Haven, all contribute to pushing him over the edge.

And yet nothing or nobody will stop him from reaching his goals. Flirtatious affairs with Shirley, Linda, and Natalie help ease the pain of Rosie’s defection, but ultimately he craves that villa in the sun he is forever dreaming about. Laugh out loud as Jamie London delivers a financial report to disbelieving fans in a crowded room, wanders into bars demanding the owners pay their debts, and ultimately faces oblivion as he runs across the highway with a bag full of swag over his shoulder. Jamie London is the ultimate page turner as the action keeps rolling on, and even when you have read the last chapter, characters like George Bradworth, old Harry, Michael Muldoon, Oliver Lipton, Sam Hoburn, the girl with the purple hair, Danny Conlin, Natalie and Antonio Pannzini, will have you thinking about them for a long time to come.
