    PREFACE

Simplifying our thinking around the golf swing is an absolute necessity because complex thinking creates confusion and destroys effectiveness and pleasure. From my experience as a golf coach over many years, I can assure you that most golfers’ difficulties largely stem from the amount of complicated, technical thinking they have swilling around in their heads. When we replace complex thoughts with simple thoughts, it makes a huge contribution to both the effectiveness of our swing and the pleasure we derive from the game.

This book is a compilation of five stand-alone e-books which were first published separately in 2011 and 2012. The reader will therefore encounter some repetition of central ideas, in particular two core exercises which go right to the heart of the swing. Mastering these exercises is, however, the key to real and sustained improvement in every aspect of your game.

My hope here is to give you some new perspectives on the game and to bring clarity, freedom and enjoyment to the experience of playing golf. In fact I’d like to end with the revolutionary thought that, contrary to popular belief, golf may not be so difficult after all.

    Note from Publisher:

*Originally we published our first ebook Golf's Simple Secrets. It became very successful though it lacked pictures which some of our readers suggested we may like to add. Taking into account our readers' enthusiasm for the book and that it was a best seller, we added some new pictures and made a new cover to differentiate between the non illustrated version and the illustrated version. We decided not to remove the first book from the bookstores and to keep the price as it was as most readers seemed happy with this. In this version The Complete Series we have therefore not included the first book as most of the information is covered in the Illustrated version.

    Introduction

We have been told a very complicated story about the golf swing and so our thoughts have been technical and complex. This has led to us thinking the whole subject is incredibly difficult. However I have found from years of teaching that there are 2 simple exercises that go right to the heart of the movement. Every golfer who gives some time to working on these exercises will see a far-reaching improvement in their swing. In addition, when we really understand how fundamentally simple the swing is, playing golf can at last become a pleasurable experience.

The first of these key exercises I have called ‘Trussed Chicken’. It involves removing your arms from the equation so that you are able to focus your attention on the rotation of your central core. The ‘Trussed Chicken’ exercise teaches you how to bring the strength of your body into the movement, rather than relying on your hands and arms, which are relatively weak. ‘Trussed Chicken’, particularly if practised in bare feet, will also help you develop good balance, which is the critical ingredient for accuracy. This one exercise will give you more power and allow you to hit the ball straighter.

The second key exercise I have called the ‘Swaperoo’. It involves learning to swap the dominant arm in the swing from left on the backswing to right on the way through. This will help with your timing, ensuring that the clubhead collects the ball solidly and powerfully at the bottom of the swing.

When we bring Trussed Chicken and Swaperoo together we have a simple and effective golf swing that applies to any shot we are about to play. Done in miniature, we have a chip shot or a pitch, and by extending it to its fullest we have a powerful drive.

In order to do these 2 exercises we need to prepare the way by firstly working on a very simple, basic stance.

    Chapter 1

    The Stance

The stance I am going to show you we share with many other sports – tennis, skiing, and fielding and wicket-keeping in cricket, for example. It is in essence a ready position that allows you to move easily in any direction and I have called it the ‘Jumping Out of a Tree’ stance. To see what I mean I’ll get you to jump up in the air, even just a little way, and see how you land. You will instinctively land with your knees bent.
