About this ebook
Attempting to recapture their normal lives, Crusaders Enforcer and The Universal venture out in their civilian identities for a night on the town. Their moment of rest is interrupted when a meteor crashes down to Earth. The two speed off to investigate only to find that the crash was not a meteor at all, rather a spaceship bearing an alien who seems to have powers very similar to that of The Universal. The stranger informs the duo they have been summoned to the source of not just their extraordinary powers but all life in the Universe. Upon reaching this mystical realm known as Life Itself, Enforcer is placed on trial for dereliction of duty and is forced to relive some of the most painful moments of his life. Standing before the All-Tribunal, Enforcer and The Universal must prove he is falsely accused of the accusations. For if Enforcer should be found guilty of abusing the powers of Life Itself, the price he must pay would be his very life.

Born on the Satellite of Cool and sent to Earth to save humanity from mundane Science Fiction, Eric Steven Johnson has been writing since his teenage years. He is the author of the ongoing superhero short fiction series 'The Crusaders: Justice Above All' and likens his storytelling style to that of comic book creators. Relying on serialization rather than novelization, most of his work can be read in one sitting and promises an action packed thrillride from start to finish. When not staring into the stars imagining new storylines and struggling over word choices, Johnson passes the time with his lovely girlfriend or playing games with his son. He also has an unhealthy obsession with the Detroit Tigers Major League Baseball franchise.

CHAPTER 1
Late October, 2031.
Jeighson Storm hated waiting in line almost as much as he hated wearing a suit. Yet, here he was along with his associate Lance Eddington III doing just that. In the ever approaching distance was Eddington Mansion, home of Lance’s well-to-do father. That evening, it was the site of a fancy soirée full of stuffy snobs and wannabe socialites. They had been waiting for the longest twenty minutes in Jeighson’s recent memory. The man of average height and build preferred seclusion to social outings and would much rather be at home alone. Lance, slightly shorter and several years younger seemed much more at home. He was a veteran of these functions having grown up in Eddington Mansion. With each step closer, Jeighson became more disenchanted with the idea of getting in. He wasn’t sure why Lance had invited him at all.
Why are we doing this again, Lance,
Jeighson asked his companion.
We’re doing this, Jeice, because you don’t get out enough,
was the answer.
There’s a reason I don’t get out much,
Jeighson started, That’s because I have no desire to mingle. I don’t have time for socializing. I have responsibilities—
Lance cut him off, You’re the most powerful human being on the planet. You’ve saved the world hundreds of times. Heck, I’m sure you’ve managed to save the entire universe at least once. Somehow though, the thought of having to make conversation with a handful of rich people terrifies you. You need to get your priorities straight, man.
Before Jeighson could offer a retort, a large man dressed in a black suit and sunglasses asked the two men for their names. I’m Lance Eddington the Third and this guy here is Jeighson Storm and he’s going to be the life of the party…aren’t you, buddy?
Jeighson rolled his eyes.
The large man stated in a dull voice, Your name is on the list Mister Eddington. His name isn’t. You may come in. He waits outside.
Woah, hey, look Rocco,
Lance started, Your name is Rocco, right?
Actually it’s Clifford,
the large man stated matter-of-factly.
Whatever you say, Rocco—look, you have to let us both in. This is my father’s party and you wouldn’t want me to call him out here would you?
No one gets in that isn’t on the list,
Clifford recited perfectly from memory. Your father’s instructions were very strict.
Lance produced a fifty dollar bill from his wallet and thrust it into the large man’s hand. If you don’t want to listen to me, maybe you’ll listen to Ulysses S. Grant,
Lance bribed. The large man shook his head negatively so Lance withdrew another bill from his wallet. What if two Ulysses S. Grants made the offer?
Jeighson shook his head in disgust at his longtime associate. This is too much trouble,
he said honestly. I’ll just head home.
I won’t hear of it, buddy,
Lance insisted. He pulled a third bill from his wallet and handed it to Clifford. Ben Franklin is coming to join the party, Rocco. I just doubled your wage for the evening. Now let us in.
Fine,
said the burly doorman, But if he gets caught in there, I wasn’t the one that let him in.
Of course you didn’t let him in, Rocco. We’ll blame the other doorman.
Clearly annoyed, the large man stood aside and let Jeighson and Lance pass through the door. Oh, and the name is Clifford.
Sure it is, buddy,
Lance said nonchalantly as he stepped through the doorway into the mansion.
Jeighson had become thoroughly annoyed with his friend. He shot Lance a look that could have paralyzed a lion with fear as they walked through the entry foyer and into the main hall. Lance smiled at him.
Look around you, man. There are beautiful women as far as the eye can see, champagne is flowing, people are laughing and dancing and there’s food. You have to love free food, right?
You know damn well every woman here is out of my price range, I don’t drink and I can’t dance.
…And you never laugh. We’ll have to work on that. Still, I notice you didn’t say anything about the food. Let’s go get some eats.
There’s caviar. I hate caviar.
You are impossible,
Lance pronounced impossible as if it were four separate words, emphasizing each syllable. Seriously, man, why can’t you take a moment to relax? Just because you’re—
Jeighson shushed Lance mid-sentence. Watch what you say. You might give away our identities.
Oh, nobody’s listening to us anyway. Take a look around at these people. They’re all lost in their own worlds.
Jeighson surveyed the room and found that indeed no one was paying them any attention. The soirée attendees were lost in their own worlds discussing a myriad of topics not even remotely interesting to him. He quickly realized that he was not the only one disinterested in the goings on. Lance had a look of utter boredom on his face as well. This was Lance’s father’s world, not his. He was stuck in it and that was why he asked Jeighson to come along.
You don’t enjoy these things at all, do you,
Jeighson asked.
"Are you kidding me? This is the most boring, absurd schlock. Ordinarily, I can’t wait to leave these parties. That’s why I asked you to come along. I usually just stand in the corner over there and wait for it all to
