Introduction
I have now released six short topics in my Relational Self Help Series. In each one of these, I have promised that there would be collections of three or more of these titles coming soon. This book is my fulfillment of that promise.
I feel that all of these titles address crucial issues in human relations. I have used the content of all of these titles over the years in my counseling. Everything in all of these titles, therefore, has been test proven repeatedly.
My sincere wish is that you will be able to help yourself or many others with the Christ-centered approaches that are contained in this book.

Coping with Stress
Introduction
Don't worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses every thought, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
Worry or anxiety cause many problems in our lives. They usually cause undue stress. Stress is becoming more of a problem in our society every year. Too many jobs are stressful. Too many people are without jobs, which causes even more stress.
In today's world, it's virtually impossible to avoid stress. Almost everyone is carrying some amount of it, in varying degrees. Many find it increasingly difficult simply to survive in the world we live in. In desperation, people are seeking relief for their problems through any remedy they can find.
We are overwhelmed with self-help books, therapists, time-management workshops, massage parlors, and recovery programs. Everyone talks about returning to a simpler way of life, but no one seems to know exactly what that means, or how to attain it.
Stress can be controlled, managed, or coped with. The purpose of this book is to help you do just that. As in all things that I counsel people for and all my books, the answer is always with God.
There are four chapters in this book. Here's a brief description of each one.
Chapter One: What Is Stress?
This chapter is there to give you a working definition of stress. Also, it talks about good stress (eustress) versus bad stress (distress).
Chapter Two: Causes of Stress
This chapter deals with the causes so that we can attack them rather than the symptoms.
Chapter Three: Signs or Symptoms of Stress
This chapter tells what to look for to know when we or someone else is experiencing too much stress.
Chapter Four: Coping with Stress
This is the chapter that really tells you what to do to keep stress from building up too much. It also tells you how to take care of stress once it is too much.
Chapter One: What Is Stress?
Stress is everywhere! We don't have to do anything to find it. It will usually find us. How we handle that stress is the key factor in determining our wellbeing, both emotionally and physically.
Even though stress is so common, too many people don't know where it comes from, and most of all how to cope with it. Even those who do know about stress have varying definitions and methods of coping.
Stress can kill. I'm sure you've heard that saying a time or two. As quaint as it is, it is true! I'm not just talking about those who decide they can't go on with all the stress they're under and attempt suicide or actually do it. All you need do is look at the symptoms of stress in Chapter Three. Notice how many of those symptoms have the warning (seek medical care) next to them.
Before you can understand the symptoms and coping mechanisms, you need to understand what stress is.
Two Types of Stress
Few people realize that there are two types of stress. Yes, there's even a good type of stress!
Eustress
The word eustress is made up of two parts. The prefix eu- comes from the Greek word meaning either well or good When added to the word stress, it literally means good stress.
Eustress, is the type of stress that influences us positively. Eustress can be something thrilling, joyful, challenging, and anticipated or an accomplishment. We usually like these kinds of things.
While eustress causes the same increased heart rate as other forms of stress, it is a helpful and necessary part of life. Eustress helps us to realize accomplishments and thereby grow both physically and emotionally.
The apostle Paul experienced stress in his ministry, but he was always able to turn it into useful eustress rather than letting the stress get to him. You can see that accomplishment when he looked back on his life.
