Bhakthi And Health
()
About this ebook
"Bhakthi And Health" is the second book by the author Dr. (Mrs.) Charanjit Ghooi, on the topic devotion and health; her first book being "Spirituality And Health". A synergy is brought between the two concepts to show how they can help a person lead a better and healthy life. Dr. Ghooi is a medical practitioner by profession and well qualified in the three systems of medicine – Homoeopathy, Allopathy, and Ayurveda. "Bhakthi And Health" projects an integrated account of human personality. It is not just an integrated view of medicines. A new concept of human personality, anatomy, and health is crystallised here.
In these days, the therapeutic value of the ancient traditions of Yoga, Bhakthi, and Meditation is more and more realised and accepted. Dr. Ghooi adds a strong voice to this new trend. The base of her book is the various speeches of Bhagawan, painstakingly collected from the volumes of Sathya Sai Speaks, Summer Showers In Brindavan, Sanathana Sarathi, and Bhajans, but clothed in medical language. As the name suggests, the book is soaked in Bhakthi Bhava (feeling of Bhakthi). The author has herself put the concepts into practice in her life, thus enriching its value. For those, who are not exposed to the Indian tradition of Bhakthi and Spirituality, both Indian and Western readers, this book is a valuable handbook; for patients in distress, this may open up a new horizon.

Acknowledgement
Reverentially, I dedicate this book to the Lotus feet of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, Who has ‘communicated’ to me through Heart to Heart Postage the subject matter and the entire book, without which this book could not have come into existence. The Manuscript of this book was blessed by Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba on 11.7.1994 at Whitefield, Brindavan, Bangalore, and on 5.1.1995 at Puttaparthi.
I bow down before the spirit of Late Dr. V.K.Gokak, who had, in fact, inspired me to listen to Swami’s Divine Discourses and to pick up, out of that, the medical aspects and given them the shape of a publication, as they would be useful to non-medicos. He had given many salient points on the topic, while he was alive.
I extend my acknowledgement to Late Shri Bhag Singh Lamba, who, during his visits to me, had guided me on Consciousness and Vibrations
and Man and His Garments
very elaborately. I cannot but thank my dearest friend, Dr. Smt. Saroj Lalwani, who had given shape to this book. My thanks are also due to Dr. M.P. Singh, Professor and Head of the Department of Anatomy, and Dr. R.P. Bhargava, Professor and Head of the Department of Physiology, Medical College, Bhopal, for their valuable guidelines in Nervous System.
I extend my special thanks to Datapro Institute for tirelessly typing out the manuscript of this book.
My Sai Sister Mrs. Veena Sehgal, who is not a medico, has made all the diagrams of this book. I thank her from the core of my heart. My Sai Brother, Sri Shambhu Nath Saxena, helped me in correcting this book and giving it a proper shape. He deserves my special thanks.
Last but not the least, I am very thankful to my sister, Dr. Yashoda Bhat, eldest daughter of Dr. V.K. Gokak, who has written the Foreword for this book. After Papa’s death, she and her brother Anil look after all of Papa’s work. Before closing, I would like to mention one interesting incident. I went to Delhi to meet Dr. Yashoda Bhat and to request her to write the Foreword. It was the day of Ganesh Chaturthi and she had installed a small 3 x 3
silver idol of Ganesh for the pooja. She picked and placed it on my right palm. The idol was so beautiful that I was lost in seeing its anklets, necklace, dress, and the exquisitely carved fingers, toes and other features. The silver pedestal, on which Lord Ganesha was seated, was also equally beautiful. Looking at me, said Didi, What a beautiful Lord Ganesha!
Yes,
said I, Didi, it is wonderfully beautiful.
Then, Didi disclosed that the mystery of the beauty was due to the fact that it was created by the Divine hands of Swami – the unique sculptor of the universe. She also told me that it was given to Dr. Gokak and was later brought to her house by her mother. It had remained with her since the passing away of her mother in her house. Later on, I came to know that on the same day and at the same time, Baba had released my first book Spirituality and Health in Puttaparthi. He is omnipresent and knows what to do and when to do things. My heartiest thanks to my elder sister Yashoda Bhat.
May Swami, my God, bless them all with health, wealth, and prosperity.
With Love,
Dr (Mrs.) Charanjit Ghooi

Foreword
As I write this Foreword, I bow down to the sacred memory of my beloved and revered father, late Dr. V.K. Gokak and place it at the Lotus Feet of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba in all humility and reverence as a token of my humble service.
Dr. Charanjit Ghooi, an ardent devotee of Baba for about two decades, requested me to edit her second book, Bhakthi and Health and write a Foreword to it. I had heard of Dr. Charanjit Ghooi through several casual references about her made by my parents and had also seen her two or three times, but was totally ignorant of what had transpired between her and my late father regarding her books. Her recent correspondence with me and her first book Spirituality and Health, which was edited by my father in his lifetime, were a revelation to me! Bhagawan Baba’s Leela is indeed supreme and unfathomable!!
Dr. Charanjit Ghooi’s first book Spirituality and Health, recently released by Baba, created a tradition and her present book Bhakthi and Health continues that tradition.
Dr. Ghooi is well qualified in three streams of medicine - Homeopathy, Allopathy, and Ayurveda. As Dr. V.K. Gokak has said in his Foreword to the first book, the book was planned as a Synthetic approach to the three systems of medicine,
but it grew into something larger than that – it annexed and assimilated Vedanta and Spirituality.
Just as the first book is a comprehensive account
of Spirituality and Health, the volume under consideration here, her second book, Bhakthi and Health, projects an integrated account of human personality.
It is not just an integrated view of medicines. A new concept of human personality, anatomy, and health is crystallised here.
Continuing her quest of an integrated concept of health, Dr. Ghooi builds a conceptual bridge between Bhakthi and Health. Dr. Ghooi seems to write about a new pathy
distinct from the other existing systems of medicine like Homeopathy and Allopathy – (may we call it SAIPATHY?
). In these days, the therapeutic value of the ancient traditions of Yoga, Bhakthi, and Meditation is more and more realised and accepted. Dr. Ghooi adds a strong voice to this new trend. She explains these ideas in a systematic, scientific, lucid, and rationalised manner. The base of her book is the various speeches of Baba, Bhajans, Journals, and so on. She also draws extensively from the Bhajans of Guru Nanak and other Indian Saints. Simultaneously, she retains her hold on facts of medical science.
Bhakthi and Health is embedded in details about the human anatomy. She enunciates and illustrates with diagrams how every human being has a number of ‘bodies’, besides the physical body and how the health of a human being is connected with these. She gives a comprehensive account of how a human body is created, how it is destroyed, and what happens to it after disintegration. The main thrust of the book, however, is on the fact that Bhakthi has soothing effect on the nerves and constant chanting of Bhajans may even transform the condition of the nerves. She reinforces this theory with the example of her own life. The book is charged with the Bhakthi way of life, which she lives intensely.
The attitude of Bhakthi and Bhakthi way of life are, of course, preventive rather than curative measures and not a wholesale panacea. The positive role they play is that they open up a new perspective and a new approach and these are clearly enunciated in the book.
As a result of the tremendous amount of hard work put in by the author, the book, radiating the author’s sincerity, makes an extremely good reading. Naivety in expression and narration, which is occasionally found, is understandable, because of the fact that it is the writing of a busy medical doctor. The reader may also find that the flow of thoughts in the book is sometimes impeded by the author’s limping language. The book serves an extremely useful purpose for every human being, because it relates to the basic and fundamental issues of health. For those readers, who are acquainted with the Indian tradition of Bhakthi and Spirituality, the book reinforces their faith; for those, who are not exposed to it, both Indian and Western readers, the book is a valuable handbook; for patients in distress, this may open up a new horizon.

Preface
It was on 4th September, 1991 that my eldest son,
Dr. Anand became seriously ill and was on death bed; I was upset. It was my faith in Swami that inspired me and gave me strength in this state of mental disturbance. I decided to rush to Bombay and seek immediate medical assistance. I took Anand to Beach Candy Hospital, where perfect treatment was meted out and Anand got a second lease of life. I always used to convey on telephone important developments to Dr. Gokak, who I was always called ‘papa’. But this time, I could not do so, because Dr. Gokak was himself sick. I did not like to disturb him in his illness. After Anand recovered fully, I took him and my daughter, Dr. Rashmi to pay respects to my revered papa.
In my state of excitement to meet him, time flew and the three of us reached his residence, named Suruchi
, and stepped into the drawing room. Dr. Gokak was informed of our arrival and he came to meet me, walking slowly with the support of a stick,
