About this ebook

We are creatures of social habit and we are desperately trying to satisfy all our survival needs. The world is a hostile place. We live fear-based lives and we do not understand why. We fear hunger, death, poverty, sickness, rejection and many more.
In our struggle to overcome and control these obstacles that we face, we have to face reality. Reality however has different faces and facets. Our perspective on what reality is, is shaped by our daily experiences, lives, habits and cultures. These impact directly on our spiritual lives. Our emotions that we experience and the choices we subsequently make are forthcoming from these experiences, habits and cultures that developed over the ages. All of these influence our realities experienced and our spiritual lives.
Seldom do we ever realise that what we experience as what is right and what is wrong is not really what it seems. It is not always the truth. The real truth is the other face of reality, or is it not?
We as humans struggle daily with many issues in our spiritual lives and we think we are on top of them, but are we? I doubt it very much. We on a daily basis make so many mistakes in our spiritual lives, we do not even realise we make them and therefore we live under the impression we are doing just fine, but we are not. We think we are in control but we are not!
For us to see the other side, the other face of reality is almost impossible, because we have the wrong perspective. We wear the incorrect pair of spectacles from the previous book: Get a Grip.
To enable us to “see” correctly, we need to go undercover. We have an undercover agent and we need to visit and expose him and all his deeply concealed secrets, to see life through the second pair of spectacles, to see true reality and live deeply, true spiritual lives.
When the learner is ready, the teacher will appear!
Essential reading for all!

“An enjoyable and refreshing read about a personal journey of discovery. The author’s positive attitude and desire to help others achieve the same positive outlook on life and find their purpose for being can be commended.
The concept is a brilliant and unique one that investigates the age-old subject of personal/societal-development in a very fresh and exciting way. The enthusiasm of the author comes through clearly within the first few pages and I felt myself carried away by this enthusiasm and swept up by the tide in my desire to learn more. Everything seems to have been so well thought out, right down to the finest detail as one could probably expect from someone with the author's background in course development. I thought that perhaps because of this background the text would be too stifling and educational but I was pleasantly surprised by the personal and conversational tone of the writing. The writing itself is of a high quality and I must repeat that the clever way in which the author has planned and introduced ideas and concepts is commendable. Although this subject matter has been written about extensively, I have certainly never seen it written from such an original angle. I'm sure many would find it intriguing and be captured and inspired by the author's unique take on life and the solution to self-realisation/actualisation.”

    The Series: RHYTHMS OF LIFE

(A rhythmical process in personal growth – as seen through two separate pairs of spectacles.)

The following two books under the series, should be read in sequence and are based upon a personal journey in a quest for truth and reflect some of the more interesting and compelling lessons learnt from it. You often hear people say ‘everything is relative’, but that depends what you compare it to. Nothing has any meaning or value if it is not the truth. The truth is never relative; it always has a higher authority and meaning. It is only when you compare something with truth that relativity disappears.

THE GAME OF SPIRITUALITY: A NEW LIFE

A Journey to Surrender and Eternal Life

(As observed through the second pair of spectacles.)

A rhythmical process of growth for all!

    Preface

    OBSERVATION

The universe is amazing! Life is amazing! People are amazing! You as an individual are just as amazing! Do you have any idea how amazing you are?

We humans actually very seldom take the time to reflect on how amazing and entirely unique we as humans really are. When we actually do, we are in awe of our achievements, either individually or collectively. Just think of the wonder of the Pyramids of Egypt, the sheer size of the Great Wall of China and space exploration (man on the moon) for a moment. They are excellent examples, amongst many others, of truly amazing human achievements! These achievements make us feel proud and make us feel good about ourselves, and they truly fill us with amazement about our abilities.

Sadly, sometimes also, when we reflect on life, we more than often see and experience a lot of pain and a lot of things around us and many things about humans that are actually not so amazing at all. Poverty, war, famine, racism and hatred, etc. come to mind. We then experience that we as humans actually are not as amazing as we may think! Amongst others, this leaves us sad, makes us feel inadequate and fills us with guilt and even disgust. We then many times wonder what went wrong. How, where and why do we make these mistakes and why can we not always get things right, or always do things correctly? We then also sometimes wonder how we are ever going to get things right, and if we will at all. Is there a way in which all of us can experience and maintain a good life, without poverty, war, famine and pain and, at the same time, also have peace amongst people, nations and within ourselves?

In short, why can’t all humans have an amazing life?

For millions of people, the world is not a nice place to live in. They see it as problematic, unfair and even chaotic, and it looks as if nobody in the world knows how to fix it, or even wants to try to fix it!

When we reflect on the above, this makes us sometimes wonder what the meaning of life is. Why are we here? Why do we live? What are we trying to achieve? What is the essence of life? Is there a solution or an explanation to all of this, somewhere? Why are life and people so amazing on the one hand, but also such a total mess on the other hand?

    *****

    Chapter 1 A New Game

    BACKGROUND

The above words come from Book 1 as the opening paragraphs in the Preface of the book. In Book 1, we went along and found a solution to this mess that we are experiencing. We also found that humans could be truly amazing beings, keep being truly amazing beings, and, at the same time, live amazing lives. All we have to do is to live love-based lives and make love-based decisions, in the presence of love, truth and peace as guiding principles. It has the ability to solve so many issues, forms an amazing base to operate from and pulls almost everything else straight, so to speak, but not everything, I fear.

Although we learnt about living love-based lives, with love-based decisions as the underlying step to achieve this amazing life, it still does not address all of our needs regarding true self-actualisation. It still does not make true Christians of us. It still does not mean that we are true followers of Jesus and that we love God more than anything else does in the world. It still does not mean that we are His true disciples and that we live a life in His kingdom here on Earth, as it should be.

In Book 1, we firstly contemplated that either life is a result of a freak of nature, or that life has a godly context and originates from a Creator. Any other reasons for life would then be a result of the former two reasons.

In Book 1, we did not pay any attention to the spiritual or godly context and origin of our universe and man, but we never excluded it. We rather went along and considered life from a normal man’s view, a view originating from an intellectual approach, an earthly approach, which I refer to as the first pair of spectacles. In this book, we will do the opposite. This book explicitly says there is a Creator, there is a God and all of the universe and man included exists because of this Power, this God, this Creator. As a result, the life that we are experiencing on Earth is a result of this Power, this God and this Creator in our lives. Therefore, we are going to look at life through a second pair of spectacles, the Christian approach to life (albeit probably also from an intellectual side as well).

Again, when we as Christians look around us, we still see a mess (mostly), but we also see some very positive things happening in the world. Whether you are a Christian or not, it does not matter; you will agree that life is not what it seems or what we expect it to be. Even if we look at so-called Christians, we very often say to ourselves: How on earth can that man or that woman call him or herself a Christian? He or she says they are Christians, but, when I look at them, it is impossible that they can be Christians at all. They definitely are not acting as perfect and holy people and are not better people than I am, because they mess up as much as I do and they do not necessarily do better than I do. Yet, because he or she is a Christian, we expect that he or she should have life under control. I mean, if any one of them is walking with or following a powerful Force or a God and living according to the laws of this powerful Force or God and His teachings, their behaviour must be godly, so to speak, and be free from blame on all these wrong doings we witness them do and accuse them of. In fact, we do not see any one of them as an example of what we expect them to be! As a result, we do not really accept them as Christians and we do not accept Christianity whole-heartedly, not only because of the reasons just mentioned, but also perhaps because of many other reasons. All of this then makes the idea of following this God a very unbelievable act and we have plenty of reasons for that.

These reasons may be anything from: I am not happy with the church; I do not know if there really is a God; I do not believe everything in the Bible, although it is a very influential book; things do not ‘gel’ for me very nicely. Accordingly, our reasons go on and on. Whatever your uneasiness with God, with a Creator, His followers (Christians), His institutions (churches), or His teachings (the Bible), I have sympathy for you. I can understand your scepticism, uneasiness and inability to just accept all of it. I can understand that you are not willing or able to understand, believe in and follow this ‘lifestyle’.

The reason for this is that, if we look around us, we do not easily see a true perceived Christian life and we do not see a God of love as depicted in the Bible. How can a God of love allow all of this pain and evil we experience as humans? Moreover, how can someone call him or herself a Christian when, according to our version and understanding of what a Christian should be, he or she is very far from being one? When we read the Bible and look around us, we sometimes do not believe a word, or at least certain passages that are written there. Everything in there actually shouts out against what we are experiencing and seeing in our daily lives, especially the bad parts of life. We pray, but nothing happens. The war, the famine, the poor, the hungry, sickness, death and all other things that we do not like, in short, the mess we see, remains and even gets worse. All the things that make us feel bad, angry or guilty about life, ourselves and others, or that fill us with some kind of fear, just never seem to end.

However, on the other side of the coin, we can identify ourselves with God, a Creator whom is responsible for all the nicer things in life. When we look in wonder at pure unspoilt nature, a beautiful sunset, a magic waterfall, a gentle butterfly, a fragile flower or a double rainbow with bursting colour against ominous clouds, it warms our hearts, we feel privileged, thankful, grateful and we would stand in awe of the Creator of all this.

What a contrast! Is this God? Is this a Creator? Is this love? How can a loving God be responsible for all of this? I am sure that most of us are confused
