It’s no secret that a company can improve its Search Engine Optimization (SEO) simply by adding a lot of quality content to its website. By doing so you provide Google and other search engines with more pages to stuff into their index, and increase the likelihood for searchers to find you.
In addition to having customary content that describes your business, other content can come in the form of buying guides, selling guides, whitepapers, case studies, top 10 lists, guest interviews, guest blog posts, and more. There are literally limitless ways to develop content.
When I was working at a mobile coupons startup, I was really struggling to come up with a content idea that would be relevant to our product, and also drive results for the business.
We had a very straightforward product, so there was no need to create a bunch of gratuitous demos, tutorials, or how-to articles. We only had a handful of local and national coupon offers on the platform, so I was not able to create a bunch of brand pages for all of our coupon advertisers. And we were slowly rolling out support for additional mobile devices, so even though I could add some content pertaining to mobile devices, it was nothing significant. I was lacking something big; something that would make a dramatic difference in SEO.
Then it occurred to me that even though we only had a couple national coupon offers on our platform, these offers happened to be from large, well-known brands, and their stores happened to be in every major city, and many secondary cities throughout the United States. Essentially, these retailers had such a large footprint that they served just about the entire country. Anyone in the US was a potential customer of these businesses.
I decided
