Ellen Vincent was brought up in Ghana but now lives in the UK. She is interested in all things that are natural. Ellen has noticed that many of the cosmetics and treatments that are available in the West contain lots of artificial ingredients and are often based on oils and substances made from petro-chemicals. After comparing them with the kinds of things that she used in Ghana she has found that the petro-chemical based ones can cause irritations and bad reactions as well as not being as good as natural based products. She now extensively makes her own cosmetics and only uses the best natural ingredients that she can find.Back in the old country coconut oil use is widespread and is used in cooking as well as to make body creams. She uses virgin coconut oil to cook with and uses it as the base for many of her skin and hair creams and oils. Ellen now produces a range of natural cosmetics that she sells in her local area in the UK under the name of 'Natural Revelations'. She hopes that she will be able to introduce these to Ghana at some stage together with all of the books that she has written on natural healthy living.Dealing with the outside of your body is fine but, to make the most of the creams and oils that you apply, you need to make sure that the foods that you eat are also doing their job. She is a big fan of green smoothies and makes sure that she has these every day. She feels invigorated after drinking them. You should look out for Ellen's books on green smoothies which include a volume that just contains ideas for recipes. She has built up her vast collection of green smoothie recipes by experimentation and following good practice. In the UK she came across apple cider vinegar and has found that this too is very useful when it comes to treating your skin and keeping your body healthy. She was so amazed by the many uses that can be found for apple cider vinegar that she wrote a book all about it. This too will soon be available through Smashwords. If you want to find out about how using a range of natural ingredients can be so good for your body and health, then you really should read Ellen's books. These are available in both electronic formats and as paperbacks. She is hoping to produce a book specifically for the care of Black hair and skin and as a result you should watch out for this when it is actually published in the near future.

    Introduction

When the words oils and fats are mentioned, health-conscious individuals tend to run for cover. What they fail to realize is that there are good fats and bad fats. Complete avoidance of intake of oils and fats would actually be detrimental to health due to the fact that our bodies need them for making essential materials such as the membranes that surround every cell. Fats are also very important for the correct functioning of the nervous system. Fats and oils become a problem when the ones you eat are potentially the wrong type and eaten in the wrong amounts.

Out of the right types of oils, those providing a supply of Omega 3 fatty acids have become very popular because of the health benefits that come from consuming them. The best sources of Omega 3 are fatty fish and flaxseeds, however, the following foods are also rich in omega 3 fatty acids:

    Hempseed

    Perilla oil

    Spirulina seaweed

    Walnuts

    Eggs

    Chia seeds

    Raddish seeds

    Fresh basil

Spinach and other dark leafed greens

    Dried tarragon

When choosing a food to provide your omega 3 fatty acids you need to also consider what other factors in the food might also provide benefits. Fish and flaxseeds aren't just made up of omega 3. There are many other useful substances contained within the raw food. It is possible that they enhance the observed health benefits of the omega 3. By using supplements alone you may be missing out on these extra substances and their additional properties. This is shown in the book by the comparison of fish and marine sources with flaxseeds as a source of omega 3. Obviously if you are a vegetarian then you will be concentrating on the plant sources of omega 3 rather than the fish ones.

When considering fish as a source of omega 3 fatty acids you need to realize that whereas oily fish may contain up to thirty percent oil white fish will contain much less and that it may be contained in the liver with significantly less in the flesh of the fish.

Leading authorities on the subject of nutrition are now emphasizing the benefits of including fish oil in your diet. It is generally considered to be one of the most often sought after remedies when it comes to improving physical performance, treating obesity, and improving mental focus. Clearly, the benefits of this oil can be great for your health. Wide ranged benefits that include helping your body both physically and mentally make fish oil a substance that can greatly affect your life positively in a multitude of ways.

Despite all of the concern about fat in our diet, the body does require healthy fats and oils to function. The problem is
