About this ebook

The atmosphere under the floorboards was like a murky soup and nothing came into clear focus. Any movement became slow and cumbersome. Although there was enough light to see by, it seemed to be more like twilight. Everything was shrouded in a thick fog that coated even the very souls of its inhabitants. One soon got used to the strange, new environment and never gave it a second thought. A strange and ghostly group of people gradually materialized, and gathered around Seth and Neil. Each ghostly apparition looked like it had come from a different time period in history. Shocked, bewildered and scared, Neil and Seth drew closer to one another for protection. Neil finally mustered up enough courage to speak to one of the ancient souls.

    Neil And Seth Are Ghosts

    Chapter 1

    Soul Trap

(What! We’re dead? How can we be dead, man? Seth asked, almost shouting.)

One fine summer day in 2012, Neil Turnbuckle and Seth Nolan entered the basement of the old Victoria Book Depository at 6660 Pandora Avenue, where Neil had secured a temporary summer job for the two of them. They had been assigned to locate and examine some well-aged books in preparation for transferring them into digital format. The room was lined with full length, solid oak bookcases and each one was filled to capacity with old books. No one had set foot in the building for years and many of the books were beyond repair. Neil and Seth had been best friends for most of their adult lives until five years previously, when Seth had moved to the California Coast to experience some great surfing. With the temporary job however, they would have the entire summer to rekindle their friendship.

Upon entering, they could see that there were several bookcases that had toppled over onto the floor. The solid wood bookcases weighed almost a ton each. The air was stale and moldy, and one other foul odor permeated the inside, that they could not identify. Everything that had been built of solid wood; crown moldings, valences, and vaulted ceilings, were all in disrepair. From the outside of the Depository, the building looked regal; however the inside should have been condemned many years before.

Deteriorating floorboards creaked beneath their feet, and wall paper that had once been rich in color, had faded and disintegrated through time. The lighting that did work shone dull and gloomy. Rats and mice could be heard scurrying about within the crumbling plaster walls. Wet and torn paper from pages of many books that had fallen littered the entire floor. Neil and Seth’s easy summer job was now beginning to look more like garbage clean-up detail.

Wow! What have you gotten us the hell into man? asked Seth, as his words echoed off the walls.

Oh my god! I guess I should have checked this place out first. apologized Neil. Sorry Seth. he continued, as one of the books he had just picked up fell apart right in his very hand.

Well shit, I guess we don’t have to examine them much now do we! Seth laughed.

I wonder if downtown knows how bad of shape this place is in. Neil asked aloud.

Seth had wandered over to one of the fallen book shelves and began examining it.

Dude, these things must weigh a ton each easy. I wonder how they got knocked over. Seth asked turning to Neil. You know we could probably have a huge party in here and no one would ever know man! he continued.

"No, no parties! I’m still getting over the last one you sprung on me. Mister and misses Garret are still giving me the stink-eye, and I didn’t even do anything. And
