About this ebook
Samantha Smiley had always achieved a simple by rules kind of life; finished college with a degree, went to church every Sunday and avoided anything that looked like trouble, until one day her new neighbor was rushed off to the emergency room and her eight-year-old daughter was left behind in her care. At first, she thought that this would be easy until she quickly realized she had a lot of growing up to do while her neighbor's daughter, Olivia Jennifer Consuela Beyoncé Martinez had a lot of growing down to do. Then again, with a name like that, made up or not, she was bound to be a handful. How hard could it be to watch her until her mother made it out of the hospital? During the short amount of time, can two girls, one grown up and one still growing, teach each other a lot about the facts of life?

I am an independently published author that finds scraps of time to write with intentions to escape the perils of a working life while owning and operating three small businesses with my husband, raising teen boys, sixteen paws (yes four shelter dogs) and a tank full of fish that keep multiplying on their own every time we look for baby fish – free fish anyone? For all of the chaos, testing of mental fortitude, strength and intuition I have endured, I have a lot to be thankful for.Recent years have put my dedication to writing time on the back burner. There were a few major surgeries within my immediate household, to then have major changes in life in general. As of 2015, I lost my mother to the final battle of Ovarian Cancer. She was a strong independent woman that I loved deeply but often saw things quite a bit differently, yet only a mother knows, you love your child no matter what - and that love will always find a way.Between our business, teens, my mother’s cancer battle and life, I have found a renewed sense of what makes me content when the tides are trying to drown me... and that is to be creative in any whimsical way that nudges me. I am back to writing full force when time allows, painting, gardening, taking pictures, knitting or my all-time favorite thing that helped me morn my loss, scrapbooking. All of these things are so very therapeutic and to be able to share with others, gives me joy.I hope you like my books, not perfect as they could be; but life is not perfect and is meant to be enjoyed nonetheless. – CJ Hawk

Chapter One
I applied my brown mascara to my green eyes as I looked at my reflection in my bathroom mirror. My long brown hair had a few extra curls in it, in hopes of catching that certain cute man in church I kept seeing every Sunday. My pink floral dress was new and fit nicely on my size ten curves at the age of thirty. My white cardigan sweater had a missing button, but it was warm enough that I probably would not be buttoning it today; therefore, taking the time to mend it now did not make sense, as I did not want to be late and get the seats in the back. My new cute suitor was always sitting close to the front and for the last few weeks, so was I.
Just as I was about to lock my front door, my cell phone rang.
Hey mom. I'm leaving now. Save me a seat.
I slid my key into the lock of my front door and turned it to lock it. I slipped my keys into my purse. I headed to my carport wishing that some magical fairy would come along, and make it a two-car garage with automatic door opener; however, I would settle on a single-car garage.
That's why I'm calling sweetheart. I'm not feeling very good, and your father, well; he won't go if I don't go.
The sound of my mother's cough at the end of the sentence told me that she had a cold.
Well, I can swing by and pick him up, but I'll be late.
Not that it mattered, but I hated being late to anything. My motto of always on time makes the bells chime sweeter was something my mother instilled in me since a young age.
"Nonsense. You go on ahead; he would only make you late, and I know how much you hate being late. Your father wanted to
