PREFACE
As the economy continues to sink to new lows, a sense of despair permeates the planet. Now, more than ever before, people yearn for a better way to live. But how is it possible to live an optimistic life? Everywhere you turn, negativity rears its ugly head.
In a world where complaining to a perfect stranger about the weather has replaced a good morning salutation, it is no wonder negativity reigns king. That is why Erase Negativity and Embrace the Magic Within was written.
This easy-to-read, self-help book provides readers with real-life examples of individuals who have overcome negativity. Each chapter offers useful advice. At the end of many of the stories, the reader is offered simple exercises to address many of the most common causes of negativity, as well as tools to help embrace a more optimistic life.
From meth addicts to millionaires, the book highlights the stories of several individuals who have successfully changed their lives for the better. In an effort to protect the privacy and safety of some of the individuals featured in the book, some of the names, as well as the states they reside, have been changed. When the first and last names are used, the person’s identity has not been altered. When only the first name is used, the name has been changed. Nevertheless, whether or not the name is bona fide or not, the struggles, recovery and experiences of each individual are authentic.
Each story personifies the devastating issues many people face that can crush their spirit and send them into a pessimistic tail spin. This use of illustration was no accident. While several books have been written about optimism, the subject of erasing negativity has not been discussed. This outlook is akin to treating symptoms and ignoring the disease. It is necessary to get to the root of a problem to counteract its effects. Erase Negativity also addresses the topics of improving one’s environment, cultivating healthy relationships, developing a spiritual outlook, and helping others.
Since an individual cannot control the actions of others, the book provides tips on how to deal with the negativity from external influences.
While this book offers useful information, it is not meant to be a substitute for counseling. The authors are not therapists. Sally Marks is a journalist and story teller. Jacqueline Howard is an educator and motivational speaker. What they offer is a practical guide based on observation, their personal experiences and self-study, the experiences of those who agreed to be interviewed for the book, psychological and spiritual research, as well as practical guidance that have been passed down through the ages.
Cindy Brown, a friend and co-author of the book, Dive In, Springboard into the Profitability, Productivity, and Potential of the Special Needs Workforce, praised the Erase Negativity manuscript for its friendly and compassionate approach. She described it as valuable guidance you might hear from a trusted friend or relative.
Our goals for writing Erase Negativity were simple - to help others and bring more light into the world. It is the author’s goal that you will enjoy the book and recommend it to anyone who is struggling with negativity and wants to enjoy a happier life.
If, after reading the book you have any questions or suggestions, please email comicsall@gmail.com, or visit the Erase Negativity blog at www.erasenegativity.blogspot.com. Happy reading.

INTRODUCTION
It is impossible to go through life without encountering difficulties. From a baby’s first cry to the last dying breath, the human experience involves a series of struggles. While encountering challenges is an inherent part of life, it is not so much the problems, but the attitude you take while facing these difficulties that shapes how you view the world.
It would make sense that an energetic and optimistic approach to life would produce better results, but that is easier said than done. An infant who is lovingly welcomed into a kind and caring family is more likely to receive positive messages than a baby who is born into a home where the environment is critical and angry. While there may be exceptions, by and large, you are the sum of your experiences, and generally this is the determining factor of whether you develop a positive or negative mindset.
If it were simply a matter of flipping a switch to receive a positive or negative attitude, most folks would opt for former. Unfortunately, many of us grew up in a negative environment, or suffered physical or emotional trauma that tainted our outlook. Bit by bit, negativity became a way of coping with life. Many pessimistic individuals claim that while a negative outlook may provide fewer positive results, it also protects them from disappointment. Unfortunately, negativity is more like a cancer than a protective shield. It starts small, and may seem innocent enough at first, but if not kept in check the negative mindset can spread and wreck havoc in all aspects of life.
I’m not negative,
you may say to yourself (or out loud). I’m just calling it as I see it.
Maybe so, but, if your approach has resulted in some depressing results and evolved into a downright unhappy life, perhaps it’s time to consider a new, happier perspective.
That is what Erase Negativity and Embrace the Magic Within is all about. It’s a simple guide to recognize and diffuse negative behavior and replace it with a positive approach. No one is born negative, it is an acquired habit. Whether you were raised in a negative household, or acquired a downbeat demeanor after a lifetime of disappointments, it was a habit you learned. Perhaps your outlook (the one your friends and family call negative) has been a shield against the worst of life. After all, if you prepare and expect the worst, it will reduce the painful effect that most assuredly will follow. Unfortunately, this approach comes with some depressing results – a disapproving mindset, negative results and an unhappy life.
On the contrary, much has been written about the power of optimism, the simplicity of law of attraction (like attracts like) and how positive thoughts, actions and deeds produce positive outcomes. It sounds good in theory. You may even believe it’s true. But putting it into practice is another story.
That is why Erase Negativity and Embrace the Magic Within was written. Who better than a couple of former naysayers to provide a practical guide to help clean out the negativity in one’s life and adopt a more positive way of living? If negativity is learned, than erasing it and replacing it with a constructive and affirmative life pattern can be learned as well.
The approach to erasing negativity is simple, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy. Like anything worth having in life, it is going to take work. However, if you read the material, follow the exercises, vow to never give up on yourself and stay with the program long enough to see it really start to work, you will see positive change in your life. So, if you’re ready for a change, please continue reading and find out how you can Erase Negativity and Embrace the Magic Within.
With love and peace,
Sally and Jackie

CHAPTER ONE
Emerging from the Depths of Hell
It was late morning and Julie’s head exploded in pain. But this was more than a migraine headache. Julie’s ache was accompanied by a gut-wrenching, emotional feeling of loss. She felt as if the life had been sucked out of her. In a sense, it had. Later that evening the nightmare was confirmed when two Marines in full dress uniforms and a police officer arrived at her door. Julie learned the unimaginable truth – her only son Edward was dead.
Julie, an intuitive since childhood, had feared her son would die an untimely death. Edward was psychic too. He knew he would die young and nonchalantly discussed the subject with his mother. She said it was as if he were a heavenly spirit more at home in the spiritual realm than on earth. In spite of their discussions, and Julie’s nagging premonitions of his demise, nothing prepared her for the pain of losing her son.
Edward’s death in and of itself would have been enough to make Julie’s life sink into an abyss of pain and suffering. Unfortunately it was the hardest of several devastating blows to her deeply wounded heart and soul. Within a four-year period prior to the death of her son, Julie separated from her husband and later endured a painful divorce that left her with massive debt. She lost her home, her car, her furniture, her savings, and nearly all of her earthly possessions. Even after losing all of that, it wasn’t enough to prevent her from the humiliating experience of filing for bankruptcy.
These devastating
