      Introduction

      I always wanted to be a teacher...that was my grand plan, and that coupled with a nerd like fascination with math’s meant that when I ended up in Optics it was a pretty good combination. There's always more to learn (NEVER trust anyone who says they 'know' optics...they most certainly don't) and when I finally got around to taking the Ophthalmic Dispensing course to become a qualified Dispensing Optician I realised that what I was in a great position to do was create a tool to aid learning for the rest of us. The existing textbooks are great, but sometimes a guide written in plain English might just help you to grasp what’s going on. So that's what you have here, a guide to help you through the theory and practise of the first year Ophthalmic Dispensing course. You can use this however you want - it should roughly cover the topics as you would normally study them, but feel free to skip around if you need
