    Chapter 1

Dick and Jean Adams were sitting eating breakfast when Jean heard the postman putting letters through the letter box Jean looked at Dick and said. ‘Never mind dear I’ll get the mail.’ Dick was still reading the papers when Jean walked back into the kitchen, she was looking through the mail when she came in a brown envelope she turned it over so that she could read the back of the sender the address was Alan and Thomas Ward Solicitors 72 The Mile Lane Old Holborn London. She sat down at the table and said. ‘I wonder what the solicitors want with us.’ Dick looked up from his paper and said. ‘Is it our solicitor’s sweetheart?’ ‘That's just what puzzles me; it’s from a London firm called Alan and Thomas Ward Solicitors.’ Dick said. ‘I have never heard of them you had better open it up and find out, it has a chance to be them wanting our business but I don’t know why seeing as we are just about broke.’ ‘Jean opened the letter and began to read it out loud. ‘Dear Mr Adams I am writing this letter to inform you that, Jean stopped reading the letter out loud.

Dick looked up and said what is it Jean.’

‘Well it goes on to say that an uncle David has died and you are the only living member of his family and the sole heir to all his property and moneys, and it goes on to say will you please telephone us as soon as you can as to the regards to meeting the telephone number is 020 7060-4452.

Dick said. ‘Well I never, I knew I had an uncle David but I have never met him well I’m telling a lie My mother said he used to call on us when I was a boy but I think I was too young to remember him he was My Dad's brother and that’s about all I know about him.’

Jean said. ‘Do you think it’s worth giving them a ring?’

‘I don’t see why not, I mean he might be worth nothing but I don’t think it will hurt to find out one way or the other I mean our firm is just about finished and another month like the last one and it’s curtains for us, and I don’t think that Alan and Thomas would bother to get in touch for a few bob.’

‘Yes Dick I think you’re right let’s give them a call it will only cost a phone call to London.’

Dick went into the hallway and picked up the phone then dialled the London number.

He waited just a minute then a woman’s voice said. ‘Good morning Wards Solicitors can I be of any help.’

Dick said. ‘Yes I’m calling about a letter I received this morning from you.’

‘Oh yes sir can you tell me your name.’

    ‘My name is Richard Andrews.’

‘Oh yes Mr Adams Mr Alan said you would call if you can give me a second I’ll put you through.’

Then Dick heard a couple of clicks in the ear piece then a man’s voice said. ‘Good morning Mr Adams now I just want to see if you are indeed the Mr Richard Adams that the will is made out to.’

‘Yes well what do you want to know?’

‘First of all what was your mother’s maiden name.’

    ‘Her maiden name was Nolan.’

‘And how old was she when she passed away.’

‘She was young she was just forty eight years old and she died on September first.’

‘I do apologize Mr Adams but that is fine so now it would benefit you to come down to the office in London to hear the reading of your uncles will, the will, will be read out by me or my brother, but if you need us to travel to Durham for us to read the will there it can be arranged but I’m afraid it might take about a month before we can make the trip, now the second option is that you and your wife come to London and we will read the will at once.

If you decide to come to London then give us a call first then we will arrange for railway tickets to be sent to you and we will arrange a night stay in a good hotel all paid for by us.’

‘Well Mr Alan I would like to think it over and put it to my wife.’

‘Yes of course you can give us a ring any time when you have made up your mind, now there is one other thing Mr Adams it is in your best interest for you to hear the will it could change your life well that’s it I hope to hear from you soon thank you for calling good bye.’

David put the phone down and when he turned around to go back to the kitchen he almost bumped into Jean she had been standing behind him all the time he had been on the phone.

David said. ‘Let’s go back into the kitchen pet I think we have something to celebrate.’

‘When they got back and they sat down David said. ‘Do you know flower I think my lovely uncle David has left us something worth going for, I mean come on the solicitor would not bother to get in touch and when he said it was in my best interest and that it would change my way of life well that’s enough for me, why don’t we shoot off to London just as soon as we can.’

‘Yes David I think we should.’

    Chapter 2

When they arrived in London they took a taxi to the hotel Bilton.

They booked in and went up to their room and Dick stripped off and went into the shower.

He was busy washing his hair and his eyes were full of soap when he felt a hand on his shoulder he turned around and still blind from the soap took Jean into his arms. Jean washed the soap from his eyes and they kissed.

Dick said. ‘Do you know Jean I feel like we are heading for an adventure I don’t know what it is but I have that feeling ever since we got into London?’

    ‘I know what it is
