If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

    2 Chronicles 7:14

    INTRODUCTION

What does it mean to pray? Is prayer really that important? Why do people make such a big deal about prayer?

Perhaps one of the most controversial topics in the body of Christ is the truth behind prayer and intercession. One denomination believes it should be done this way and another believes you cannot get a prayer through unless it’s done their way. Who is right?

Brothers and sisters in Christ, prayer (intercession) is not as complex as people (ministers and lay members alike) have made it out to be. The competition that exists between intercessors is unbelievable and at the same time detrimental to our progress. This spirit will cause God to turn a deaf ear to their prayers. The truth is, prayer and intercession is a lifestyle and the language, or dialect of heavenly citizens. Without prayer our lives are hopeless and weak.

For those that really hunger and thirst after righteousness, we must clearly understand that prayer gives us access to being filled. Without the ability to pray, our life is hopeless. The heart of God the father is to stay in constant communication with his sons and daughters. This goal is obtained in prayer as it keeps the lines of communication open between father and son. It is through the power of prayer that we understand the purpose, intent and call of God on our lives. When it comes to the measure of prayer we as sons of God have all been called to this ministry. Yes, ministry.

    The bible declares:

And he spake a parable unto them [to this end], that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;.

    Luke 18:1

Notice this passage of scripture does not limit the command of prayer to those that hold a title, gift or office. The word declares that men are to always pray. We must begin now to remove every pre-conceived idea that we have had on the subject of prayer. Can we count everything as dung that we may learn something new? Can we allow God to unfold the dimensions of prayer that pertain to our walk with him?

Will it throw you off your high horse if you are taught something new about prayer? Am I praying for the right thing? Do I have a fruitful prayer life? What is God saying to me in prayer? Is God even listening to me?
