THEY SAY DREAMS CAN TELL THE FUTURE
BUT WHAT IF ALL YOUR DREAMS ARE NIGHTMARES?

Two months of psychological and physical therapy has gotten Darian back on his feet. Finally out of the hospital and able to walk, he’s about to start picking up where he left off, but this time with Jennifer by his side.

It wasn’t until the night Darian came home that he encountered the worst of his nightmares. The shadow that had been lurking in his dreams has shown itself again. But this time, blaming him for killing Jennifer. Seeing Jennifer being drained of life was not an image Darian could ever erase from his memory. What’s worse was that Darian was unable to help her in any way.

Are his dreams telling of an impending trouble? Why is the shadow accusing him of murder?

In this third instalment, Darian finally faces the darkness that lurks in his dreams, and realizes the true depth of its evil.

EXCERPT
Darian lay in bed for a while trying his best to go back to sleep after Jennifer left for work. He couldn’t get the picture of Jennifer’s face from the dream he had had out of his mind. He could still see the greyness of her eyes as she lay silently next to him, not breathing or moving. Every time he closed his eyes, he saw her staring back at him and he would jolt upright again and look around the room for the shadow.

The dreams that he had experienced in the past seemed to be his consciousness recovering from the shooting, but this one seemed like it was more of a premonition than anything else.

Darian was starting to worry that there was something more to these dreams than he might have thought in the beginning, but there was nothing he could do about it right now. He had to start putting his life together somehow, and that required putting the dreams off for a bit longer.

Author

G. J. Winters

G.J. Winters “fell into” writing when a well-meaning teacher of his submitted his Creative Writing assignment for publication in the school paper. The local paper picked up the article and asked G.J. for publishing rights, to which the young G.J. agreed with some hesitation, as he felt “that wasn’t one of my best writings at the time.” The reality was that this article was written when G.J. was a junior in high school. The article, which was a fictionalized version of a local myth surrounding a famous abandoned house near a swamp, was an assignment turned in as part of a mid-term exam. The teacher, Miss Mendez, thought G.J.’s writing was “exemplary” and showed “natural, raw writing talent for a person his age." The assignment called for “providing details to a local urban myth – provide background, using a local resident’s POV, and close with a vague hint of authenticity and realism."The story, entitled “The Old Mansion by the Swamp,” appeared in the high school paper as a short story, but was later serialized in the local paper in 6 parts. G.J. added more characters and even a sub-story (which later became a story of its own, “I Was Shirley Massey” – a story which centered on a member of the fictional family who resided in the Massey Mansion in the late 70s and disappeared without a trace). With the success of both of his original series, G.J. thought to venture into writing longer stories, this time with futuristic themes, as he has always been fascinated with travelling through time, future crimes, apocalyptic themes, and stories set in civilizations from the future.G.J. identifies with sci-fi writers such as Isaac Asimov (“Kept me awake through most evenings in college.”) and Margaret Peterson Haddix (“My girlfriend at the time had fits of jealousy over my fanatical tendencies towards this author.”).G.J. holds a degree in Chemistry, is an intern at the R&D division of a pharmaceutical manufacturing company, and lives with girlfriend Deidre, a magazine editor.

    Chapter One

DARIAN LAY IN bed for a while trying his best to go back to sleep after Jennifer left for work. He couldn't get the picture of Jennifer's face from the dream he had had out of his mind. He could still see the greyness of her eyes as she lay silently next to him, not breathing or moving. Every time he closed his eyes, he saw her staring back at him and he would jolt upright again and look around the room for the shadow.

Darian was starting to worry that there was something more to these dreams than he might have thought in the beginning, but there was nothing he could do about it right now. He had to start putting his life together somehow, and that required putting the dreams off for a bit longer.

Darian got out of bed and headed off to take a shower when his phone rang. He walked down the hall into the living room and picked up the phone on the fourth ring.

    Hello.

Darian Lane? This is Detective Daniels. I was wondering if you wouldn't mind answering some questions for me.

The detective was as emotional as a brick every time they spoke and this time was no exception. Darian was really getting tired of dealing with Daniels, but he knew that it was something he had to do in order to get rid of him as soon as possible.

Uh, yeah, sure. Why not? Darian gave the detective about as much emotion as he was getting and hoped it would annoy him just a little bit.

Okay. Could you open the door, please, so that I can come in?

Darian looked around frantically as if the detective was hiding behind his furniture and then walked over to the door. Looking through the window, he saw the detective standing on his porch with a cell phone against his ear. The detective looked up and waved at Darian through the window and proceeded to hang up.

Darian opened the door and looked at the detective sternly, And just how long have you been standing outside my door?

A few minutes. I wanted to make sure that you were here and not trying to hide from me. The detective looked past Darian and into the living room. "You gonna invite me in or
