Is this program for you?
Are you a beginning to intermediate lifter? This program is perfect for you. You know your way around the gym, you spell ‘dumbbell’ with two Bs, you know it’s a kettlebell, not ‘kettle ball,’ and you’ve probably done a deadlift before. Good job!
This program builds basic strength and muscle, while introducing you to the value of unilateral exercises, carrying heavy loads, and smart movements. Enjoy!

Hi, my name is Roland Denzel, and I used to be fat.Like I said above, I used to be fat, but now I'm not. I lost a lot of fat and a lot of weight, and I've kept it off for over ten years now. In those ten years, I've learned a lot, and my quest to get fit and trim has morphed into a passion for fitness and nutrition that I didn't know I had hidden inside of me. That passion has led to competing and training in Kettlebell Sport, in addition to becoming an IKFF certified kettlebell coach.As someone who's always been passionate about food and cooking, I'm proud to say that my weight loss journey has also spawned an interest in healthier eating. I'm a self-taught cook, unless you count Sunset Magazine and Julia Child, but a large part of my nutritional education comes from Precision Nutrition, where I got my certification as a Precision Nutrition Coach.I lost 75 pounds - It's really not that simple, although it sounds good in my elevator speech. "I lost 75 pounds" is enough to start a conversation.I did lose 75lbs, of course, but I've since added some muscle, and today I'm about 200 pounds, but leaner than when I was at my all time low of 160. Yes, I lost fat and gained muscle, so the actual weight loss claim is problematic. Introduction
Where do you work out?
One of the places we like to train is just across the street, at the local 24 Hour Fitness. Day in and day out, men like you and me, invest their time, money and energy to get stronger and leaner. ...or so they think.
They dress the part - their matching designer workout clothes don’t absorb sweat, they ‘wick it’ away. They spend less time in the weight room lifting heavy weights than they do in the locker room, where they can often be found styling, primping, making sure they are perfectly clean shaven, and drying their bodies with the wall mounted hair dryers.
Yes, there is facial hair on the modern man, but more often than not it’s trimmed and groomed daily, to a length that says ‘I’m so casual that I shaved four days to look this casual." Sure, there may be a beard or even a goatee at your gym, but never, never, ever a mustache.
Epidemic of average
On Monday, the non-mustachioed man can be seen coming out of the locker room and heading straight to his regularly scheduled appointment with the shoulder press machine, on Wednesday he heads to the treadmill for forty five minutes of 3.5 mile per hour walking.
He has been going there for five years. His body is the same; average. His dumbbells are the same size; unfortunately, below average. His results; average.
Maybe he doesn’t want to improve. Maybe he’s happy with average.
If this same man had decided to get stronger and leaner a hundred years ago, do you think his results would have been different? With no treadmill and fancy machines to rely on, would he have settled on being the same ‘average’ guy five years into his training?
One hundred years ago, would that same man spend more time primping himself to go back to work than he just spent in the gym? Would that man fake a four day growth of beard just to look ‘casual?’
No, yesterday’s man trained hard and showered quickly, then toweled himself dry, confident that his underwear was up the challenge of absorbing a little clean water. He’d get dressed after shaving his face, with the exception of the mustache that real men of the day wore proudly.
What has happened to our methods and our tools, and most importantly, what happened to our training heritage? When did our training become workouts, and when did our workout ‘lose its mustache?’ and put on a matching outfit that ‘wicks?’

There’s nothing wrong with the word ‘workout,’ It’s commonly used to describe a grouping of exercises done during a single training session.
Unfortunately, it’s also commonly used as a substitute for the word ‘training,’ but it’s not the same. At all.
