    Sizing is the first step in solar PV system design. It is the most important part of PV system design and founded on it, everything is worked upon. Over the years, many systems have failed, not because of incorrect installation, or equipment failure. It was because the owner thought that he would get more power than the system could deliver. In recent studies, it has been seen that 10-25% of new PV solar installations have huge installation and sizing problems that will result in significantly decreased system performance. These performance shortfalls can be eliminated, in many cases, by proper system design and sizing. Under sizing, your system means that you will not generate enough power and you will still need to cough up money to pay the grid power company if you are grid-tied. If however, you oversize the system and generate excess power, this power will go to waste if you do not have a net-metering agreement with the grid company.

    This book is for those who really want to grasp the concepts behind the calculations used for photovoltaic system sizing. Unlike the solar calculators found all over the internet, this publication goes deeper into the basics behind those calculations. A lot has been written about the different solar systems and their sizing but these have been bits and pieces of information. There are a lot of websites with system sizing software but they do not have a comprehensive description of the background information behind these calculations. The information is scattered all over. This publication will explain different solar systems scenarios and their sizing under one cover. Yes, it’s nice and easy to eat sushi, but don’t you thing that you will be more empowered to learn how to make the sushi so that in the unlikely event that you find your local sushi shop closed you can simply buy your incredience and prepare your own sushi? As the saying goes, don’t give them fish but teach them how to catch fish. That is exactly what will to do in this book.

    I will give you thirteen detailed designs with all the calculations involved. The example will cover mot of the following areas; communications, refrigeration for health care, crop irrigation, animal husbandry ,water purification, lighting, cathodic protection, environmental monitoring, marine and air navigation, utility power, and other residential and commercial applications.
