Chapter One
The Dream Move
It was nearly Christmas Day, and the Fletcher’s, Keith and Rachel, and their two daughters twelve year-old Helen, and Sally, who was two years younger, couldn’t wait to move into their new dream home. They had just brought the property, in the small Devon costal village, of Westward Ho!
The house was called Cliffside, it wasn’t new in fact it was built during the Victorian era. It had four bedrooms, and was about 300 yards, from the Cliffside. But more importantly to everyone it was only a five minutes’ walk from the beach. It had two large rooms downstairs; one that the family used, as the main living room, the other, as a dining room.
There was a spacious kitchen with all new electronic equipment, a gas cooker and more stuff then you could ever wish to use. A utility room was located, at the back of the kitchen this was used, for doing the families clothes washing.
There was a small broom cupboard that had a large wooden door. This led to a huge cellar below. The cellar was very dark, as the there was no windows or lighting. It was also very dusty. The cellar was situated underneath the kitchen. Keith had decided that the cellar would be an ideal place for storing a wine collection.
There was a large garden, which was at the back of the property. This was going to be perfect, for summer barbecues. There were no neighbors, near-by.
The Fletcher’s had purchased it about three months before moving in. As the property had been derelict, and empty, for some time, it needed a massive refurbishment throughout.
All the hard work had now been completed. It had new wooden floorings throughout the house. A new central heating system, for warming the whole house was also installed.
And every room had been completely redecorated. The spare bedroom they thought would come in very handy, for family members, or friends to stay, on holiday, or even just for the weekend.
It was a considerable move for the family from their old home, in Romford, Essex. But it was a move that they had longed to make, for many years. They had just sold their family bakery business, and their three bedroom house, for a substantial profit. And for the very first time in their lives they had plenty, of money, in the bank.
They didn’t realize it at the time though, that this house was one that all of the local community tried to avoid, as much as possible. Because Cliffside, had a terrible history, that dated back many years. Life though seemed extremely good to the Fletchers, right now.
They had left their previous home, in the early hours, of Friday morning, as they knew that it would take them, at least five hours to reach their destination.
The sat prettily near the cliff-side, in Devon. The views were fantastic, and you could easily spend the whole day admiring them.
But more importantly to the children it would the very first time that they had their own bedrooms. Not that the two girls didn’t get along, well most, of the time, anyway.
They always used to argue about music. Helen liked anything that was in the top forty pop charts, while Sally just liked R&B and Hip Hop. These arguments were mainly caused by, which one of them could play their music. As they didn’t really like each other’s choice, of music except, for the occasional times when Sally’s favorite artists reached the pop charts.
