A HAUNTED DREAM HOUSE...
DEMONIC ENTITIES...
ESCAPE IS TOO LATE AN OPTION

THE Millers believe they have finally found a dream house and are expecting to start creating happy memories in the future when horrific events begin happening in the house as soon as they moved in. Husband and wife Jim and Susan hope the hauntings will stop, but when their children, Jenna and Faith, start getting hurt, there is no question about escaping.

But the demons will not let them leave.

Desperate, they ask the help of a local, well-known exorcist. Adam Delaney isn't just any exorcist – he is one of the few non-priests recognized as a member of the International Association of Exorcists. As soon as Adam hears the details, he is soon knocking at their door with veteran paranormal researcher Joshua Reeds in tow. They proceed to prepare the family for the cleansing rite and for the exorcism. The equipment is set up, the prayers have been said, but the question remains.

Can they stop the demons in time before anyone gets possessed? Or worse, killed?

Possessed is the third and the last in the series, Cursed Ones. To get the complete scare, read the first, thrilling start – Infested; followed by the scary and malevolent Oppressed.

EXCERPT
He turned the ignition on and all he got was sputtering. The engine would not engage. He tried over and over, but it didn’t work. He got out of the car, intending to take a look under the hood. Jim had barely cleared the car when the front of it was violently tossed up by something.

The rear tires were still on the ground but the front was already up. The car’s frame protested in loud squeaks. It appeared like something heavy had climbed into the back of the truck. He fell on his butt as he backed away from it. The front tires reached high enough that it looked to Jim like the truck was going to topple backwards.

It came crashing down and the tires were embedded a few inches into the ground. The hood popped open and flailed as the car noisily bounced a couple of times more, disrupting the peaceful morning air. Jim did not wait for anything else to happen. He ran to his family.

“Snap out of it, Sue! Get the children inside!”

Susan did not respond, she was too busy shaking. Jim had to slap her across the face to shock her back into reality.

“Get the children inside! Now!”

Lily Green

Lily Green is 41, divorced, and lives in Pacific Heights, San Francisco. She has two sons—Michael, 22 and Todd, 18. Lily has a dark past—she was adopted as a child by a well-meaning, homey schoolteacher and her husband, a bartender. Her adopted father abused her as a child, and in her late teens, she decided she had had enough and reported the incident both to her mom, and the local police. Her mother, instead of coming to her aid, decided to evict her. Lily, therefore, had to move into the city and fend for herself, working odd jobs to put herself through college. She married Howard, a fellow student, and father to both her sons. They parted ways when Todd was 3. Michael is in medical school—an intern—with a pre-med degree in Psychiatry. Michael resides in L.A. Todd is a student at San Francisco University, taking up Dance as his major. Both Michael and Todd are single. Her former husband is Howard, head of an architecture firm. Though he and Lily are estranged, he helps put the kids through college. Lily herself was a dance choreographer—and now teaches Development of Dance Techniques and Dance Theory—part time. She is known to date men several years her junior, as she finds most men her age or older to be “too serious” and “boring." She has a healthy appetite for sex, but finds getting into a serious relationship for long periods “a waste of time." She feels she has yet to find a man her equal both intellectually and physically. She does not believe in “love”—she defines relationships as a meeting of minds and a consensual approval of helping the other grow. Lily is into organic food and is a health and exercise buff (though mostly incidental—the exercising helps “clear her mind”). She is into “centering” and yoga. She has yet to give up smoking, though. She loves to shop but within reason. Anything excessive and lavish has to be justified, she feels. Lily is deeply into social work (she is a member of the local LGBT group as a generous donor for free HIV testing drives, among other advocacies.). She is also an advocate for animal adoption. She describes herself as “a city girl with a small-town heart."

    1.

FOUR HOURS OF sleep. That was all he got. Habits were habits and one of his was getting up at seven in the morning. Another habit was coffee. The day didn't start until he imbibed his daily dose of caffeine. With his trusty mug filled to the brim, Adam Delaney entered his study to chronicle the outcome of his latest venture.

His study was small. It consisted of one desk flanked by columns of sorted folders, a two year old computer, and the walls on both sides completely lined by shelves of books on various topics. The four-by-six meter room was indeed cramped. The wall behind his chair was crowded with frames that held his certificates and accomplishments.

Adam Delaney was a very special man - to the Roman Catholic Church at least. Though he was known in the field of Demonology throughout the country, Adam had always been, and planned to always be, in Burkburnett.

Adam was a modern day exorcist.

He never planned to be one, but he gravitated towards the occult and metaphysical naturally. Adam had always shown high psychic tendencies and empathic abilities since he was young. The abilities only grew over time and at one point, due to a large number of negative feedback from all sides, Adam got literally lost.

He found solace, as a teenager, in drugs. It dulled his senses, and it dulled his abilities. He was happy to get away from it all, or so he thought. Adam's drug use became too problematic that his overly religious parents dragged him to church one day and forced him to confess his sins -- an activity he loathed and approached halfheartedly.

    Redemption came that day.

Father Bautista, who would end up being his mentor, had none of the formality and holier-than-thou attitude of other priests he had encountered in his childhood. Father Tony, as he was called by his parishioners, listened and asked the right questions at the right time. Adam was already spilling his guts out and relating to the priest the real reason why he turned to drugs before he even knew it.

Like a good shepherd, the priest led him to the right path. First, it was Sunday service. Then he returned to school. It wasn't long before the priest, who was a member of the International Association of Exorcists in the entire state, had him in tow when investigating claims of demonic possessions, most of which were fake. Witnessing the good that his role model did for others without asking for recompense became the spark that led him to pursue the field of Exorcism. Adam even planned to become a priest at one point just to be able to do what he wanted.

But he did not need to. His high aptitude for empathy and the latent psychic ability made him invaluable to the field. Now, holding degrees in Theology and Psychology, Adam was the only Auxiliary Member of the International Association of Exorcists in the entire United States.

He sat on his chair and pulled out a thick, bound, notebook and began to fill in the details of the work he did just the other night. He turned his digital recorder on at the same time. He paused briefly to recall his last recording entry, then began writing.

The Johnsons expressed their fear of the entities retaliating if the exorcism wasn't successful. This was just before we have established the history of the house. While there were no incidents of violence reported on the premises being committed by or against any of the previous owners, the research done suggested that it was in fact, the original owners of the house that may have been tied to the events that prompted the family from Sheppard Road to seek for help.

He paused briefly to write the details down then continued.

"The house itself is located in a good neighborhood with easy access to major roads. It looks pretty on the outside but the mood changes significantly once inside. I was immediately gripped with a feeling of rage. I wanted to be angry, and for no reason at all. Howard Johnson was the only one at home. His family stayed with nearby relatives until the matter was settled, and this is for their safety.

"Howard is the only person who has continuously resided in the house since they moved in three months earlier and he looked haggard. Just looking at him made me feel exhausted myself, that was how bad it was. He told me he was not getting enough sleep. The circles around his eyes were big and dark he had a lazy air about him.

"I began by questioning him about the reason why he sought help from an exorcist and not somewhere else. His story was consistent with the backgrounder he had given me in that phone conversation we had four days ago. As he recounted his experiences, I decided to check out the entire house.

"Howard gave me good description of each part of the house where he and his family experienced the curious circumstances. The first thing that came to his mind was the door to the basement where the light bulb always turns on by itself even when they had just turned it off.

"We got to that door and it was cold! It was hot outside and even in the living room, but as soon as we opened that door, it got cold. True enough, the incandescent bulb was on. He had me pull on the pull switch and shut the door. I heard a click, opened the door and the light was on again!

"I did it again three more times and the result was the same. On my fourth try, as soon as I opened the door, Howard fainted. I immediately thought it had something to do with insisting on keeping the light bulb off, but as I dragged him to the sofa, I also thought it might have been his lack of sleep.

On our way to the sofa, the sofa just toppled over. There was no breeze that could do that. It just flipped over on its-

Adam's recollection was interrupted with the house phone ringing. He did not want to deal with it so he waited until it died down. If it wasn't important, they'd leave a message, he thought. He sipped on his hot coffee in the meantime. The ringing died down. But a couple of seconds later, it rang again.

He sighed audibly as he waited for it to die down once more. It did. Then it rang again.

Whoever it was, he was not planning to leave a message.

SUSAN WOKE up before anyone else in the family did.

She was on the floor of one of the bedrooms. She felt sore all over. Her body ached with every movement. The sight that greeted her was one of total destruction. Immediately recognizable was the amount of debris strewn across the room.

    It was a big mess.

Susan found fine splinters near her. When she was able to sit, she noticed that it was the same all over. A quick survey of the room revealed why.

There were parts of the chair that was, for all appearances, dismantled by force. The doors to Jenna's cabinet were also on the floor, separated into many fragments. She realized one more startling thing as she surveyed the room -- she was naked. All of her garments, underwear included, were gone.
