Education Online, Graduate Edition - Paul Casasus
Introduction
There is no doubt that online degree programs are becoming increasingly more popular, and graduate programs are no exception. In fact, more then 6.7 million students—32 percent of total higher ed enrollment—took at least one online course through a university during fall 2011, up from roughly 6.1 million students the year prior, according to Changing Course: Ten Years of Tracking Online Education in the United States.
(Sheehy, Kelsey 1/8/13).
Online degree programs are in many cases more affordable, require no transportation, offer families an opportunity to spend more time together, and provides students the flexibility to work when and where they'd like. Non-traditional students now have many options at their disposal concerning education. Fulfilling those goals that seemed so far away are now within reach. A student can now attend Harvard University online, a fact only recently realized. According to The National Center for Education 34 percent of U.S. Colleges now offer online bachelors degrees.
I don't believe that online degrees will replace the traditional classroom but it will definitely enhance education as a whole. I do hope however, that as online education progresses and improves, it will force traditional universities to reexamine their tuition structure.
I am confident that you will find the information in this book accurate. However, it Should be utilized as a guide only. It wouldn't surprise me to find that a few schools have either changed their tuition rates or made changes to their degree requirements by the time this book is distributed. Please do your due diligence and research the school you hope to attend and its programs to gain a more accurate account.
The information regarding school programs and tuition rates were last confirmed during the month of November 2013. All schools listed in this book are regionally accredited by one of six regional accrediting agencies recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) http://www.chea.org/Directories/regional.asp.
Regional accreditation is considered the premier standard of accreditation. It is the most recognized type of accreditation and the most widely accepted in terms of transferring credits and degrees.
This is our third book in the Education Online Series. I hope that we've been able to broaden your access to affordable online degree programs and possibly reaching your academic goals. Please remember, if you are on active duty or a veteran of the armed services, you may qualify for special tuition rates, so be sure to inquire. We now have a website that supports all the information in our book series.
