2014 Feng Shui Forecast, Year of the Horse - Kathryn Weber

    Letter from Kathryn

In 2014, we are breaking away from the water themes and entering into a wood year. Wood years can bring many benefits – like growth.

As I write this forecast, the New York Stock Market is heading to all-time historic highs. This marks, at long, long last, a trend toward some optimism after the past few watery years.

What do elements of water and wood have to do with what the year is like? Everything. As you are probably all too aware, water is a giver of life. But in Feng Shui, the darker side of water is the tendency toward despondency and depression.

To say that our economy and outlook has been sad and blue is an understatement. The economy of the past number of years has been desperately depressed, and one could even say suicidal. But the wood horse coming in 2014 is going to change that.

Of course, that’s not to say that the year won’t have its problems, too… there always are.

But, what bears emphasis is that the wood over fire mix that we have in the year ahead means there will be optimism, breakthroughs, happy times, and, yes, I believe, consumer confidence.

It seems that whenever the economy is dragging we look at the poor consumer and point at his or her lack of confidence as the source of our economic troubles.

This year, the bedraggled consumer is going to feel like splurging, throwing a party and even dipping a toe into the stock market. You might want to consider it, too. Just be sure to sell once you’ve made a profit!

There’s another reason to be optimistic, too, and it’s related to wood.

The 4 Green Star is coming to the center sector and kicking the nasty 5 Yellow Star to the curb.

The best way to describe the 5 Yellow is like an unpleasant smell that won’t leave. It’s been depressing. All kinds of troubles occur with this Star – from financial, to serious accident or illness and money or relationship loss. If you had a toilet in the center of your home, you were lucky in 2013.

    The look of love

Now, the 4 Star is coming and like a cool summer breeze will be blowing in and making everyone feel lighter, energized – and dare I say – in the mood.

Singles have a great chance of finding love, couples will be more inclined to marry, and committed couples could see a renaissance in their love life and affection toward one another.

On a larger scale, this is also a time when education will become more important. That’s because the 4 Star relates to education and scholastic advancement. It also relates to writing.

If you’re a writer, this could be a break-out year for you! Education could also see major improvements and innovations – and won’t that be nice news for a change?

But the 4 Star also has a negative side, and it’s infidelity. It’s possible there will be some big sexual scandals that break in 2014 from people you’d never expect. I guess that’s what makes it a scandal, though, doesn’t it?

    It’s time to party!

The horse is all about having a good time. So think about becoming more sociable, attending meetups, arranging for parties at your house, getting out and mingling and having fun.

The horse loves a good time and it’s about time we lightened up and had some fun. One other way to get out and about is to pack your suitcase.

Get out there and see the world

Have you wanted to travel but the economy hasn’t made you feel like you could? That could all change in 2014.

The fire element in the year makes the 12 months ahead the best time to get out and about in the world.

Make some plans for travel to someplace exotic or far flung. It’s a great time to travel – just avoid cut-rate cruises and bargain airlines with sketchy safety records.

Be aware, though, that you will want to travel with airlines and cruise lines that are reputable and have an excellent safety record.

The dark cloud on the horizon is the potential for air and sea accidents like the Costa Concordia that sank off the coast of Italy.

This year’s forecast has everything you need to know to make the most of the year ahead.

You’ll learn all about ways to handle problems and increase your luck for wealth, luck in health, luck in love, and luck in success throughout 2014.

    It’s a ladies year in 2014

Women have got fantastic luck in the year ahead. About time, right?

It’s been a long row to hoe the past few years and it’s time the ladies caught a break.

You’ll be glad to hear that 2014 is that year. Why so?

The White 1 Star of Victory heads to the southwest sector of the woman and that can mean a lot of things – from making more money, starting a business, getting a raise, even creating a complete transformation for your life.

    INTRODUCTION

To the Chinese there are times to take action and times to step back. They time their endeavors to make sure that the timing supports them in their undertakings. As a rule, an essential time for taking steps in your life are at key times such as:

    - The New Moon. For the first 15 days following the New Moon, this is an essential time to initiate plans you’ve made. Not only do you have the moon’s support, but you also have the number 15 behind you. This number represents heaven when added together (1+5=6). This heavenly assistance is useful for new beginnings.

    - The New Year. This is a time when the Chinese enjoy themselves, their family, and they consciously work to lay the plans that they want to occur in the new year. They make sure that they have plenty of auspicious energy surrounding them at the start of the New Year, too, by having parties, inviting guests over, bringing in special treats like fruits, nuts and flowers.

    - The change of Feng Shui. Feng Shui is nothing to be trifled with in Asia. Businesses and wealthy people all seek out Feng Shui masters to help them understand the year’s energies and how it will affect their health, their livelihoods and their families. This change occurs each February 4th irrespective of the actual Chinese New Year date.

Looking at the year’s energies is a common undertaking by most Asian families. They understand that the energies shift and change and that one year can bring a bounty and another year can bring nothing but trouble.

And while it’s important to maximize the year’s beneficial energies, it’s just as critical to make sure you take care of the difficult energies that could pose a threat to your health, your relationships or your finances. It’s a lot like locking your doors at night before sleeping. It’s hard to go to bed comfortably and sleep soundly if you haven’t checked and locked your doors.

And that’s the lesson of Feng Shui – it teaches you to lock the doors on problem energies for the year so you can be comfortable in the remaining year knowing that you have handled the problems and can begin working on maximizing the beneficial energies.

So, while it’s tempting to merely accentuate the positives, it’s critical that you handle the year’s difficulties. Then, when the benefits roll in, you’ll get to fully experience them and enjoy the bounties of your thoughtful preparation!

    HOW TO USE THIS BOOK

Every year I say the same thing, and that is, to practice protective Feng Shui. It goes without saying that leaving the keys in your car and the doors unlocked in a crowded parking lot only invites someone to steal your car.

The same kind of thinking applies in Feng Shui.

When you take care of the annual energies that are problematic, you can be more confident that the year ahead will be more harmonious and prosperous because you’ve taken the steps – or in the case of the car, you’ve taken the car keys and locked the doors – to prevent a problem like theft, in the example of the car.

What kinds of problems are you protecting yourself from by observing annual Feng Shui?

These can range from protecting your relationship to protecting your very life and health. It’s keeping your home protected against malicious intent of people who might find your weakness.

If you don’t believe that people are intent on doing harm, just go and leave your car keys in the ignition and doors unlocked and see how long it takes for someone to drive away in your car.

Using protective Feng Shui can protect your children from becoming sick, or if you’re pregnant, from miscarriage, or from an interloper trying to insert themselves into your relationship. It can also help protect your money, your career and even yourself and family from injury.

Each year the energies change and that’s why one year to the next can seem so greatly different. Feng Shui originally started as a study of time and how time affected space….not space itself!

That’s because no space exists in a vacuum, it exists at a point in time at all times…I know this is deep stuff, but it’s important to know some of these foundational points about Feng Shui if you want to really understand how Feng Shui affects your life.

Just know that you don’t have to know all this to use Feng Shui though…I’ll walk you through everything you need to know in 2014 to make the most of the Year of the Horse!

To give you some background, there is a calendar called the Hsia Chinese calendar, which is used to analyze time and Feng Shui. The calendar tracks the energies from year to year. The energies tracked in this calendar can essentially be boiled down to a nine square tic tac toe grid called the Lo Shu Square.

The Lo Shu square is the more familiar eight sided octagon, or bagua, only in a square shape. Each of the squares contains a number that is the predominant energy for the year ahead. These numbers can either portend problems – or opportunities.

Below is an example of the Lo Shu square for 2014. Each square relates to a direction, and a corner of your home, and outlines the kind of energy you can expect in the year ahead. But don’t worry: if your front door is in the Northwest, I’ll show you how to handle this energy.

We’re going to go over in depth what each of these numbers mean, how to handle the problematic energies of the year and how to promote the energies that bring you financial abundance, relationship harmony, career advancement, and good health and well-being.

The goal of the annual 2014 Feng Shui Forecast is to help you handle both types of energies effectively, so that your year is smooth, productive and profitable, in all regards.

Key Aspects of Annual Feng Shui

What is vital that you know about annual Feng Shui is that it takes priority over your personal Feng Shui that you use according to your best directions (kua number), which I’ll explain later in the book, and it takes priority over the natal energies of your house, or flying star.

Now with all that behind us, let’s talk about 2014!

What You Need to Know for the Year of the Horse

In the Chinese Zodiac, the horse is the seventh sign of the zodiac. He rules the times between 11 am and 1 pm, the height of the day when the sun is at its apex. That means the horse is associated with heat and fire!

The horse as a zodiac sign is happy, gregarious, joyous, carefree, popular, and falls in love easily. Equines are also known for being impulsive, physically active, talkative, and handsome. Sometimes the horse is thought to be brash and a bragger, but his graceful movement wins over detractors.

Horse signs, like the actual horse, are also known to try just about anything but you can’t force them to do anything. Of course, you know the old saying, you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink. It’s true. You won’t get a horse to budge if he doesn’t want to.

If one were to paint a human picture of a horse, it would have to be James Bond. Ever the playboy, the horse has natural good looks that attracts admirers and he just loves to be the center of attention.

He’s good in bed and in business, too. Talk about a studly combination! When a horse lacks discretion and self-control, he loses friends, and horses are known for being feisty and having a bad temper.

Some famous horses include Jackie Chan, Kristen Stewart, John Travolta, Kirstie Alley, and Harrison Ford. There’s a lot of fire with a horse – and fire means fun, hope, travel, good times, and optimism.

It’s been a long time since we were hopeful, hasn’t it?

We’ve seen major gains in the stock market in the last year, the employment outlook continues to improve (albeit slower than we’d all like), and the worst of the financial crisis seems like a distant and painful memory.

Even gas prices are at the lowest (as of this writing) they’ve been in three years! That’s enough to help give the economy a small kick in the pants and get the consumer confidence growing again – something essential for getting the economy off of life support.

It’s not all sunshine and roses, though.

We’ll have a few stormy seas to weather, but by knowing how to tap into the best energies of the year, you’ll be able to make some gains this year that will outpace those of your friends and family who don’t follow Feng Shui.

One of the things I write about
