      Now you boys mind your Aunt Kate, Colin’s father said as he stood on the railway platform. You’re here to help her, OK?

      Tommy nodded. We’ll make ssssure all the applessss get picked, he said in his childish voice.

      Without his front teeth, the kid couldn’t even make a decent S sound, Colin thought. What kind of help was he going to be?
