    1a. The Orlons were an early sixties girl group, with the exception of one male bass singer.

    2a. The Orlons were the only girl group to include a male bass vocalist to accentuate their singing. The Chiffons, Shirelles, and Cookies had all female members.

    3a. Orlon is a type of lightweight, synthetic fabric. They chose the name as a complement to The Cashmere’s, another group named after a fabric.

    4q. What city were The Orlons from and where did they meet?

    4a. The Orlons were from West Philadelphia. They met at Overbrook High School and were originally three Brickley sisters and two friends. Shirley Brickley, Rosetta Hightower, Marlena Davis and Steve Caldwell became The Orlons. The two younger Brickley sisters weren’t old enough to play in nightclubs.

    5q. What label signed The Orlons?

    5a. Cameo-Parkway record label signed The Orlons after a schoolmate, Len Barry, heard them sing and recommended them to his groups label.

    6a. Yes, after a successful five year career they disbanded. Steve Caldwell spent twenty years as a bus driver before reassembling the group after a forty year hiatus. He is the only original member, along with Jean Brickley, Shirley’s sister.
