Introduction
and
Preface
Hi, let me introduce myself ... a fellow writer, Paula Freda, daughter, granddaughter; mother, wife and homemaker, and Grandmother (Hip Hip Hooray!), with the aforementioned priorities first, but writer
on equal terms. Without those first family designations, I could not be the latter. In other words, life experience, of which each of us has in abundance.
Over the past 70 years I have written, taken writing courses, published my writing in my local hometown newspaper (The Mid-Island Times, Hicksville, Long Island, NY), published my works in several small presses, print and online, and self-published as an indie author/publisher under my pseudonym, Paula Freda. I have edited manuscripts, coordinated writers’ groups, published a small press The Pink Chameleon
that showcased works submitted by beginning and intermediate writers in print editions 1985 thru 1999, and presently on the Internet since June 2000) .

Along with selling through Amazon and Amazon/Createspace, my e-books and paperbacks (standard print and large print editions) sell online at Barnes and Noble.com, Smashwords, Kobo, Apple, (iPads, smartphones, tablets) etc.. I also have an online storefront to sell my work as pdf ebooks, on CDs, and Microsoft Word Files.

Despite all the aforementioned, my sales are humble, and I remain an unknown. But I've never sought riches. Well, perhaps a little to supplement my Social Security.
I write because I enjoy writing, creating, sharing my ideas. My soul reaching out and touching another soul. You and I may never be as famous as J K Rowling or Dean Koontz, but one hundred years from now, someone may find your work in an old bookstore, and find pleasure and knowledge in your creation. Your words may uplift a sagging spirit, or enthuse a depressed or wandering mind. Your words may create another J K Rowling or inspire another writer to achieve his best work.
Then, of course, you just might be the next writer to hit the Best Seller List.
In 2001 I taught a series of Lessons at mysticvisions.com (a former online writers' group) on writing and marketing short stories, lessons that can also be applied to most types of writing... novellas, novel, articles, essays, etc..
I had four pupils and we communicated via e-mail. This book contains the aforementioned lessons. I heartily recommend delving into them and the private optional assignments, especially for beginning and intermediate writers. The knowledge herein can boost your writing abilities and present your work at its best to a prospective editor, and for a self-published author, to your reader.
This book sells as an E-book and as a paperback through several online book publishers. I have revised and updated this version
