There is one person I’d especially like to thank, because I owe him so much.

George Kempland, I wish to acknowledge you for your loyalty, dedication, mountains of help, and always just being there for me. Again, thank you, so very much. Thank you for everything.

This story was inspired by all those science fiction greats of the Golden Age of Science Fiction and that wonderful classic genre, Space Opera. I attempted here to do just what you all did and in the way that you did it--that is, to create an exciting story. I very much hope I succeeded.

    Chapter 1

New York, 1947--Danny And Jennifer Have A Bad Day

In this case, what he had wanted, had dreamt of for weeks since acquiring his new job at the Aegis Insurance Company, was a chance to ask Jennifer out on a date. Well, that and to have her actually say yes to his question.

Now it was too late. She was gone. The beautiful blonde Jennifer, stolen away, and just as Danny had been about to utter his much practiced words, the repeatedly polished ones designed to get her to go out with him.

Even as Danny morosely thought this, with a hissing sound, like that of a storm-driven wind through a pine forest, a huge black tentacle again lashed down out of the sky. This time, Danny was the victim. Like some gargantuan bullwhip, the thing snaked toward him, wrapped itself tightly around him, and then lifted Danny in a strangely fluid motion. The speed of this
