    PREFACE

This volume is a collection of verses written from my life experiences. I drew inspiration from a variety of events. My optimistic decision to move to Atlanta with very little money and the hope that I would find a job led to my living homeless during the fall for three long months. I’ve watched good friends pass from this world before their time and lost aged loved ones whose passings cannot be reconciled.

I’ve found salvation in the quiet whisperings of the forests and inspiration among the awesome mountains of the Appalachians. I survived Hurricane Katrina’s epic destruction, madness and reconstruction. I am moved by my New Orleans ancestors who carved out a humble existence while they endured the trials and tribulations of the young city.

A collection of poetry would not be complete without including verses with the age old themes of love, loss and tragedy, which I believe unite us all in our fundamental existence.

My desire is that you, the reader, will identify with these themes and perhaps find something that will evoke your senses of inspiration and understanding. I sincerely hope that you will enjoy this volume.

    Best Regards,

    Tracy L. Conway

    ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

I would like to express thanks to the Muses who have influenced my writings over the years. I’d like to thank my family and friends for their unwavering encouragement. In particular I would like to thank Michelle Stiles, April Dawn and Anastasia Pierce for all those long ago nights spent writing and reading over Denny’s coffee cups until the sun came up.

I thank the Great Spirit for the wind in the trees, the stars in the sky and the quiet sanctuary of the forests. I would like to thank Amy Ray and Emily Saliers of the Indigo Girls for decades of inspiring music and dedicated activism. I’d like to thank the Fates for leading me down the path of resistance, for I was able to walk slowly and observe the details that are otherwise neglected when speeding by without a
