So you finally want to lose some weight?
If you are like millions of other people, you probably have a few books on your shelves about the topic.
You've also most likely searched for dieting plans on the Internet. And you might have also asked other people how they managed to lose weight.
Why, then, have you yourself not been successful? Certainly not because you just haven't found a diet that works.
Because the truth is, many diet plans do work - if you follow them!
Aha, now we are getting to the root of the problem...
You have not lost weight simply because you have not consistently followed a diet plan long enough to shed those unwanted pounds.
Easily said, right? Especially by a thin guy like myself, who has never really had any weight issues.
I can hear you now:
"Hey, David, what do you know about how painfully hard it can be to work up the discipline you need to stop eating a lot of your favorite foods, or at least cut back on them drastically... how terribly tempting it is sometimes to throw your diet plan out the window, and grab that bag of potato chips, or that pack of TastyCakes, or have an extra beer or two when you are at a cookout... You people with thin
genes don't know how lucky you are!"
Maybe. But that doesn't mean that I've never needed discipline for other areas of my life. And even where food is concerned, yes, I do know how hard it is to resist those TastyCakes, for I truly love them!
Earlier this year, I visited my mother in the States for six weeks. I have been living in Japan for over a year, and had spent practically all of my adult life in Germany, and later, Spain.
Naturally, this kept me from fattening up too much, since TastyCakes, not to mention a lot of other delicious, fattening stuff, are not readily available in Europe, and are even harder to find in Japan.
In May 2010, when I was in the U.S., I went shopping with my mother at the local supermarket. Walking down the aisles, and getting a look at all the tempting sweet brownies, cakes, the fantastic assortment of ice cream, a myriad of different types of soda (I even found banana soda: I bought it, and loved it!) - it really struck me how it must be nearly impossible for weight-watchers to resist this stuff.
