About this ebook
A young mother who has been estranged from her father for many years is forced to confront her past when a strange island resurfaces off the coast of Iceland and the two of them are assigned to the research team studying it.
Brent Knowles
Brent Knowles is a writer, programmer, and game designer. He worked at the role-playing game studio BioWare (Baldur's Gate 2, Neverwinter Nights, Jade Empire, Dragon Age) for ten years, during most of which he was a Lead Designer/Creative Director. Now he writes full time. He has been published in a variety of magazines including Neo-Opsis, On Spec, and Tales of the Talisman. In 2009 Brent placed first in the third quarter of the Writer’s of the Future Contest. He is also a member of SF Canada: Canada’s National Association for Speculative Fiction Professionals

There it is!
Jón shouted, his voice booming in the salmon ship's small cabin as the trawler bounced across the storm stirred Atlantic, leaping from wave to wave. Marci clutched a railing and watched the island ahead grow bigger through the water-splashed window. Steve stood at the bow of the ship, unprotected from the storm and hanging on for dear life as he pointed excitedly. His water-plastered gray beard, his stooped frame, and the weathered lines of his face, made his age apparent. Steve had always seemed old to her, but now it was something more, almost elderly. She half-hoped he would slip, fall into the sea, be out of her life forever.
Marci watched the much younger Jón struggle with the ship's controls, as he continued, I told you I found an island. And look. There! The Tree!
