Racing in the Shadow of Greatness: The Rescue of an Ex-Racehorse
()
About this ebook
There he was. In the distance, I could see this silhouette of a horse standing in the fog. He did not look like an ordinary horse, but a magnificent outline of a racehorse. ... I would later find out that it was Judge Moore, great-grandson of a famous racehorse! - Suitable for ages 8-16 and adults.
Bonnie Alonzo
Bonnie Alonzo is the proud owner of a horse named Shadow. Shadow comes from the very complicated world of horse racing, where his name was Judge Moore. He is the great-grandson of a magnificent Triple Crown winner. I will be taking you on a journey through just part of his life — his life as I know it, since I have had him. I will be telling you this story from an inexperienced horse owner’s view. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed having Shadow as a part of my life.

Dedication
This book is dedicated to Shadow Judge Moore.
You may not have made it to the Triple Crown but you certainly have lived up to your Great-Grandfather’s name, Seattle Slew, making it to Churchill Downs three times. You will always remain a champion in my heart. This book is also written for all of the racehorses out there just trying to make it on the track. Also, to those who have fallen into the wrong hands of the slaughterhouses and those horses who’s lives will never be the same once taken off the racetrack.

Chapter 1: The Unexpected
It is the beginning of fall in Northern Indiana. This time of year is absolutely beautiful. This morning was no exception. The leaves had turned from green to brilliant shades of orange, yellow and red. It was a misty, foggy morning and the air was cool. As mom and I headed towards town, little did I know this would be the day that I would begin an amazing journey and my life would be changed forever.
Across the road from our property, is an old abandoned farm and apple orchard that has been for sale for some time now. The recession has taken its toll and 2009 has been an especially hard year for everyone. The unemployment rate in this area is the worst it has ever been. Companies that have been in business for years have been forced to close their doors. Many families have lost their homes and are moving out of the area. It is no surprise that the orchard has not sold.
As we passed the farm, I looked off to my right towards the back of the property. There he was. In the distance, I could see this silhouette of a horse standing in the fog. He
