About this ebook
Engaged to be married, the young merman named Meros has just found the perfect wedding gift for his bride-to-be when he's scooped unceremoniously from the sea in a scientist's net and is held hostage at a research lab. Once Meros' soon-to-be father-in-law and king of all oceans, the powerful Merlyn, learns of his abduction, he arranges to kidnap the scientist's own son in retaliation and holds him for ransom. "The Storm King" is a fish-out-of-water story for both characters and the vivid narrative explores themes of compassion, trust, humility, respect, family and love.

Meros was frantic. The young prince was to be married when the next full moon rose. The crescent of silver in the night sky was growing thicker with each passing day, a constant reminder that time was passing quickly. Though he had swum to the farthest reaches of the sea and combed the sands, Meros had yet to find a gift befitting the princess to present her on their wedding day.
He heaved himself onto a cold lonely rock and gazed despondently at the glowing sliver in the sky. He slapped his tail against the rock, frustrated. What was he to do?
He'd heard the legends of course, of the underground cavern. It was said to be filled with a magical green stone so precious and beautiful, the terra walkers strapped on false gills and risked their lives for just one piece of the luminous gem. He hadn't believed the stories at first, but his whale friend Hugo said he'd seen it first hand traveling south down the Long Coast. He said the myths were true.
Meros' thoughts drifted to Meranda, his betrothed. She was the loveliest girl he'd ever known and her eyes were the color of the greenest seas, when the sunlight dances through the water and the coral spreads its wings. If only that magical stone existed, it would make the perfect gift.
Suddenly, Meros' mind was made up. He slipped into the water in search of Hugo.
For two suns and two moons he traveled until his tail burned. At long last, he found Hugo cruising the warm waters of the Southern Blue. He raced up to him, exhausted.
Hugo!
he called, Hugo! Slow down!
Hugo had just sunk down from a playful breach and was surprised to see his friend so far from home.
Meros my friend! Whatever are you doing here?
Meros swam up to him, his gills fluttering
