About this ebook
Rebecca wishes she were dating in the fifties or sixties - when men treated women like ladies, and when the world wasn't obsessed with new technology. After being dumped by, yet another, disappointing boyfriend, she vows to find somebody different this time; somebody who will gaze at her, not his mobile phone during a date, and who shares her old-fashioned values. She starts writing to a man who she thinks could be 'the one'. When he asks her to visit, things take an unexpected turn. Will she meet her Mr Right?

Prologue
I feel I’m living in the wrong decade: all this equal opportunities
and text messaging. I want to be swept off my feet. I want mystery, excitement and romance. Am I being too picky? I should have been alive in the ‘50s - I would have worn pastel- coloured flared skirts and cute ankle socks tucked into my pure white pumps. I’d have tied my long red hair up into a high pony tail and I’d have waited for a gorgeous guy to come and jive with me. We would have courted
for a while then we’d have got married and lived happily ever after. He’d have gone out to work while I stayed home with the children.
I wouldn’t have had to worry about my weight, either, as size 14 curves were acceptable in those days. Nowadays, I feel huge. Maybe that’s why I like to wear retro clothes from the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s; I’m rebelling against all this size zero
nonsense.
I’m disappointed with men, nowadays, too. They wear tracksuits, shave their heads and go around scratching themselves and swearing. Where can I find an old-fashioned Gent who likes to dress well and who knows how to treat a girl?
I suppose I’m just being bitter after my recent break-up. Paul and I had been great when we’d first got together, three months ago. We’d met at work. I work in a large call-centre, and there are so many men and women in there it’s like a huge night club. Anyway, I met him when we went away to a sales conference. I’d seen him around and thought he was quite cute and, to be honest, I was quite shocked when he’d asked me out. I didn’t think he’d noticed me.
Our employer had sent us to Monte Carlo, so he’d come dressed in a tuxedo and I’d worn a long, electric-blue ball gown. I’d tied my hair up into a chignon and I’d borrowed my mum’s diamond necklace. It was such a romantic evening. We played a few rounds of poker and had a go on the roulette wheel (I actually won fifty pounds!) and then we wandered out onto the veranda and kissed. He was a great kisser. He had nice lips – full and pink. His eyes were his main feature, though. They were so grey they were almost translucent. He was the perfect gentleman: we didn’t sleep together until several weeks later. To be honest, I think this was when the relationship started to go down-hill. He wasn’t as good as I’d expected, and perhaps he’d felt the same as I did. Something just didn’t feel right
