Puppy dog eyes are no substitute for research.

Puppies are a wonderful addition to a family, but there are things you should know before you bring one home.

Learn about breeds and the health problems associated with each breed. There are DNA and other tests that can be done to identify potential problems.

You can find a healthy, happy puppy at shelters, rescue groups, breeders, Internet sellers and even pet stores – if you know what to look for , what to avoid and how to examine a puppy.

Understand contract or bill-of-sale terms and how to protect yourself from Internet fraud.

    Is the Timing Right?

    The season

People often are discouraged from getting a puppy as a Christmas gift for someone. Not everyone is delighted to see a puppy under the Christmas tree, and anyone who truly wants a puppy should help choose him so the bonding and sense of responsibility start right away.

If you’re getting a puppy for yourself, holidays sometimes are so stressful and busy that a puppy could find himself lonely and neglected or, alternately, too lavishly pampered and indulged.

Summertime often appeals to people because school children are home and vacations offer a chance for all the family to spend time together. Many breeders try to schedule litters in the late spring or early summer so they can start training puppies to toilet in the yard which is a plus to potential buyers.

    In my opinion, the maximum
