A lot of things go through your mind while being held from the neck by a super villain. That particular villains name being Death Lord doesn’t exactly make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside either. As I was hanging there, trying to pull Death Lord’s grip away from me, I wondered: How the hell do I always get myself into these situations?

My feet weren’t even touching the ground. If I were super powered, even just a little, getting out of that type of situation would’ve been a cinch; well, at least a little bit easier. Too bad I’m powerless. That’s what they called me, Mr. Powerless. I had a different name picked out for myself, but the press seemed to think Mr. Powerless suited me better.

So I’m hanging there: Death Lord was tall, strong, and had the complexion of a corpse. He kept trying to force me to look into those red beady eyes of his. I wasn’t falling for it. I knew that instant death awaited in that gaze. I turned my eyes away from him. I had to train myself to look at anything but those eyes.

Across the room, I saw my trusty sidekick, Stunner. He was taking on ten of Death Lord’s henchmen all at once, and he was doing it with ease. Now that was power. Super strength that registered off the charts, energy blasts from his chest, wingless flight; Stunner had it all. And that wasn’t to mention his costume. He really pulled off the flashy gold costume. It sure made my costume look dull and cliché; a black cape on black tights with a black utility belt, and a half-cover black mask. It was easier for me to hide in the shadows this way. But I guess for a guy like Stunner, he never really needed to hide. He wanted the bad guys to see him coming.

With all of Stunner’s powers and his flashy costume, it was no wonder the newspapers got it wrong when they called me the sidekick. But truth be told, Stunner was the one that came to me offering to be my sidekick. Why? I’ll never know. Maybe cause he was messed up in the head? He brought along some messed up story with him. He told me that he was actually a time traveler from the future; wouldn’t tell me how far. He said that in the future, the world was ruled by some super powered tyrant. Stunner was
