Grayer is allegedly dead, but only Prescott knows the truth: Grayer is alive and lurking in the shadows.

On October 1st, the anniversary of the first murder, The MAINEiac resurfaces, killing someone special from Prescott's past. Suddenly, it's déjà vu for Prescott, except this time the women closest to him begin to fall victim. Unforeseen: (Tenth Anniversary Edition) (Thomas Prescott Book 1) by Nick Pirog is a five star story. I really enjoy his writing. It keeps me entertained. This one was a stay up late to finish kind of book.I especially enjoy Thomas Prescott's clever quips. "Dr. Dodds unbuttoned her blazer & revealed she'd been concealing three deadly weapons. While all were respective thirty-eights & all were equally special, only one was a Smith & Wesson."Later Thomas, the retired homicide detective, was driving with Lacy & frustrated by the GPS voice in his car. "For the next ten minutes the generic woman's voice shouted out commands every thirty seconds & I finally had the idea what it was like to be married. Once safely in the parking lot, the woman shouted, 'Put the car in Park.' I put the car in park & she nagged, 'Turn off ignition.' It took every ounce of self-control not to smash the screen with my fist."Thomas was at a funeral for a murdered girl. He described his tears like this: "I don't cry when I'm sad, I cry when I'm angry. Angry tears don't dribble off your cheek, they're absorbed, as if you can't part with that anger, you need that anger to go on, to live." Since I also cry when I'm angry, I could relate to this.I highly recommend all of Nick Pirog's books.I received a complimentary copy from Amazon in a promotion. This did not change my opinion for this review.

thriller, crime-fiction, horror, dismemberment, psychopath, psychological, PTSD. situational-humor, snarky, Maine, serial-murder, serial-rapist, unputdownable, long-term-illness, blindness, ex-cop, FBI, friendship, frustration, family-dynamics, family-drama, famous-author, journalist, murder-investigation, mutilation, rule-breaker, anger-issues, siblings, relationships, relationship-issues, coroner, due-diligence*****Prescott comes across as a real dirt bag who objectifies women. Then I realized that he is an archetypical farce complicated by some anoxic brain damage and the constant need to verify self and life common to first responders/ER personnel/and others who are forced to face the reality of man's inhumanity to man. Annoying as that stuff is, he is also a brilliant detail oriented detective. I should note that the first book that I read in this series was the 2023 prequel that adds another layer to his messed up self. The farce of his personality (and his sister's narcoleptic Pug) somewhat counteracts the horror of this case with its multiple murders emphasized as a cat and mouse game between the psycho and Prescott with a large cast of multiple local, county, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. Can you get through some of the descriptions without barfing? Prescott couldn't.I got this in audio narrated by Johnny Heller who really proved his acting skills with this one.Finished it in a day and a half and want the next one.

Very funny book, well written and quite enjoyable...until an ending that pretty much lost me. Happily, it was quick, the endings that is.

I see a lot of mixed reviews for this book. But, hey, I liked it. The ending was not what I was expecting; but I found that to be a pleasant surprise. The humor/witty comments reminded me of reading Mickey Spillane. I'll read more by this author.

    DID NOT FINISH

don't mind sarcasm, heck, I do sarcasm myself, but just about every sentence in the first paragraph read with both biting and outright rude sarcasm. The endnote for me was the sexual quip, when the main character begins objectifying the flight attendant.

My second problem with this is it being first person. Seems like every book I bought this week is first person. Sigh.
