After Death - J. Bennett Collins
Introduction
After all these years of Bible preaching and teaching it would seem that a book like this would be superfluous. Particularly this would seem so with the many books that have already been written through the years on this subject. Yet, due to many questions still being asked and the fact that false religionists have so misrepresented the truth, this should be a very timely piece of writing.
It is my desire to teach exactly what the Bible has to say and that you give attention to your own spiritual condition so that you can be assured of eternal life in Christ and a place in heaven when your time comes to die. I have placed some self-designed charts in the center of the book to make it easier for you to understand, as well as to use as a tool to show others quickly what the Bible teaches about life after physical death.
Death and life after death is certain
It is not a waste of time to remind you that every person who is born on this earth will someday face the death of his or her body. The only exception to this truth is those who will be caught up in the Rapture. The Rapture is the time when Jesus comes for His Church. Since that event will constitute a definite change in the body, it will be the death of the body as it is now known.
Hebrews 9:27, And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.
Man is a three partite being
Man consists of body, soul and spirit.
Hebrews 4:12, For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Now notice, if you will, that only the body dies. The soul and spirit cannot die.
Matthew 10:28, And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
Since the soul and spirit of a man never die, then the soul and spirit will live on somewhere after the death of the body. The scripture concerning the rich man and Lazarus in Luke 16 (which we will discuss fully later on) plus many other scriptures make it clear that the soul and spirit have consciousness, sight, hearing, feeling, and understanding after the soul and spirit are separated from the body.
Hebrew 9:27 says plainly that there is an event to take place after death so there must be life after death. The mistaken idea that death ends it all is a ploy of Satan to deceive
