About this ebook
In 2006, the Spirit told me to remember where I came from. This was during a time when the church in general was receiving very bad publicity, and I was part of the complaining culture. I wanted my granddaughter, Johanna, on her eleventh birthday, to understand our history and the path the Lord had us on. There is no greater thrill than to see your children and grandchildren become a part of the body of Christ, the Church.
"Brian, remember where you came from."
This is a recounting of some of the incredible events that brought me to faith in Christ, and led to planting and pastoring a Vineyard Church.

Prologue
Just before my granddaughter's eleventh birthday, I felt the Spirit urge me, Remember where you came from.
This was during a time when the church was being denigrated everywhere for not being the organization that fit the image Christ intended in scripture. I was part of that complaining culture until the Spirit spoke to me, Brian, remember where you came from.
Remembering some significant events has led me to understand that the church, the bride of Christ, is alive and well, and it is His will to fill it with all that are called. It is also His will that His body, the church, learn to function in all authority, with all the grace and gifts of the Spirit.
There is no greater thrill than to see your children and grandchildren in the body of Christ. Even though there may be conflicts and problems as we interact with other people and those in leadership positions, the blessings, and benefits of being in the body, a church, far outweigh any possible losses. The church is being redefined.
Hopefully, this is helpful to you in understanding the path where Lord has taken us. The chapters with the asterisks, to me, are descriptions of supernatural events.
Dear Johanna,
I have been eagerly looking forward to the time that I could write this letter to you, a time when you would no longer be a child, but looking forward to discovering and learning more about where the Lord is taking you in your life. It has been wonderful talking with you about the things of the Spirit. Each time that we do, I always come away from those conversations amazed that the Lord has created such an intelligent, inquisitive, caring and loving granddaughter. I love all our conversations and look forward to many more, but I thought it would be helpful for you to have something that you could take your time and read, and not be limited to only having conversations
Nana and I love you very much. It seems like this is our favorite topic of conversation, now, how our grandchildren are doing, how they are growing, how bright and intelligent they are, and particularly, you, Johanna. It appears the Lord has given us this incredible gift as we have gotten older. There are some very wonderful things that have happened to Nana and I in our lives. We have had wonderful friends, with incredible adventures around the world. We have seen and done a lot that others have not been able to do. The most wonderful and awesome gift has been the Lord bringing us together, falling in love, marrying, and having two incredible children, Michele and your mom, their growing and the Spirit filling them and leading them to be filled with love, and marry wonderful godly men. Then to have that love give birth to you, Johanna, the first of our grandchildren, is almost more joy than we could handle. It was like all the promises of God being fulfilled in this miracle that love produces.
I know you like mysteries. It is almost impossible to describe the life your mom and dad have and that Nana and I have without being amazed at the wonderful mystery hidden and kept secret for so long that everyone tries to understand and figure out. What's going on here?
People always say to us, What is this?
not quite being able to grasp the mystery of our lives. You are part of that great wonderful mystery which has been hidden for so long.
So the Lord has led me to write down some of the incredible things that have happened to Nana and I in our relationship with God and to share them with you, knowing that he is leading you to seek him out. It is hard for many people to understand or believe this great mystery of our lives, and they scoff at what we know the Lord has done with us and that he mysteriously has given us great love, joy, and power.
We know you are on an incredible, mysterious journey, with incredible clues to get you more curious. The maker of the universe: He is compelling you. That is what He does
All our love,
Nana and Grampie

X-ray vision *
Working as a part time ski repairman in a ski repair shop at Skotch Mountain Resort in New York, it was my third year of undergraduate work at Oneonta State University. Skiing was my love and I had befriended the owner of the ski shop and the ski repair shop at the mountain. Dave was the son of a mortician in Oneonta and owned the ski shop and repair shop. They would often give me a ride back and forth from Oneonta to the mountain which was about 35 miles away.
One weekend in January, being taken back to Oneonta in their Mercedes, very tired and in the back seat with two others that had been skiing, my head was tipped to the side and down, going in and out of sleep. All at once I was looking at the road under the car! I could see the road passing under the car right through the bottom of the car! Thinking it was a dream, I opened my eyes and the sight stopped but as soon as I closed my eyes, I could see the road again, rushing by underneath. I turned my head from side to side and the view was stationary.
Where I came up with this test is unknown, guessing that dreams move with you when you turn your head. This went on for several minutes and then stopped.
The Accident *
Two weeks later, as a passenger in a Thunderbird, coming back from skiing, on a cold, dark, and rainy night, the Thunderbird ran under a refrigeration truck. Sleeping in the front seat, the refrigeration tank came in the front windshield on my side and over the top of me into the back seat. The driver, a fellow skier and son of a local doctor, was unhurt except for some minor bruises. The truck driver had backed the truck illegally across the highway with no lights on after leaving a local tavern.
The ambulance was delayed in getting to the scene of the accident, having been told this later. I was in shock and going in and out of consciousness, and close to death by the time the ambulance got to the emergency room. Emergency surgery restored my collapsed lung and x-rays revealed that all but two ribs on my right side had disintegrated next to my backbone from the impact of the refrigeration tank under the truck coming through the windshield and over the seat I was sitting in. The prognosis
