YOU CAN HAVE MINE
Who cares how it started. Does anyone care? Not really. But it did. And it had resounding effects on everyone and everything around her.
When she moved into the little downtown with her upholstery shop, everyone in the neighborhood was excited. A new shop in town, other than yet another antique store was a welcome change.
Cleaning up the space while putting up the sign was exciting and fresh for all. A space being restored and a lovely woman on the street to boot. The dealers delighted in her presence on the street, since they could take their beat up purchases, couches, chairs, divans, everything dealers get from estate sales to her, right across the street. She could make them new in short order with skill.
It was a good living. Hard work, yes, but she was good, strong and young still. Well, compared to the old geezers who owned those shops, the skilled woman was a vision.
And so, the Upholsterer came to town, taking it by storm. Pleasant, kind and sociable, always a good word for all who came her way, a definite way about her, a sway and a swagger. In calculated, methodical fashion, pulling someone into conversation, making them feel like the only one that existed, she held sway over them.
Looking deep into their eyes, giving them a sense of importance. The only one that mattered at that moment in her life, was that one, the talker. Giving them her undivided attention.
The men were absolutely taken by her charm and wit. Flocking to her shop at all times of the day, just dropping in for a chat. It was always important what they came for, but not really, they just wanted to be near
