About this ebook

Adam Smith, member of The Eyes that See, a centuries old secret Society dedicated to documenting the supernatural in all its forms, has just stumbled across something monumental. He has found proof of balancers.
Fredrick Bradfield, head of the South African division of The Eyes, wants nothing more than to present this find to the elders. Unfortunately, doing so could mean the end of the order, and probably his life.
Jonathan Darcy, chief director of The Eyes, can not afford to let the discovery see the light of day. It could cost him everything he holds dear.
Wolfgang Eriksson, balancer and wickedly devious immortal, holds all the cards in his hands. But what will he do with them?

Author

Chris Adonn

I want to write. I want to lose myself in compelling narratives and adventures as they unfold in my mind and spill onto pages which will invariably result in a book by the time I am done. Writing started for me as a way to pass the time whenever I ran out of reading material or wanted to get rid of excess creative energy (I was an artist specializing in the painting medium (still am). Before I knew it, I was in love with the new freedom I could find only by putting pen to paper (or rather, fingers to a key-board). I wanted to delineate the characters I had dreamed into existence on a two dimensional surface with 3D fluidity. I have no idea if I have succeeded in this initial feat, but now I mainly long to see where they will take me to next. Of course I want much more than that as writing the story is only the first step for me. I want to present my books to the world in a fashion that captures the market for which they were intended. I want intrepid readers to meet the characters I have fallen in love with and perhaps, fall in love with them too. Dear reader, please let me know your impressions and thoughts by entering a rating and your opinion after reading my work. Thanking you in advance, Chris Adonn P.S. 5 STARSThe Eye that See is a prelude to the Balancer Chronicles. I now want to go and read it. The eyes that see was good and wants you to find out more about their world. Its a really fast read. Still the characters are ones you want to find out more about them.Adam is young man that broke some rules and caught something on tape that he should not have. Adam is excited because he knows his mentor really wanted to find out about them.Fredrick has wanted to know proof of Balancers exist for years, but he is concened that Adam broke the rules and put him in danger. Jonathan Darcy is Fredrick boss and he is mad that the tape exists. He has always lied about them to Fredrick. Now they are all at risk.Wolfgang Eriksson is a Balancer who protects humans from the natural world and know one is supposed to know a bout them. He has the choice to take their memories or kill them.I am excited to go read more about Balancers in the next book of the series.I was given this book from Librarything in exchange of honest reviews.March 28, 2011 PUB

Being a short story, the background information is given very quickly. However, not too quickly, as the reader gets a good impression of each of the characters. As a teaser for an upcoming series, this story achieves its goal: engages the readers appetite for the story line without giving too much away to detract from the first book. A very good read.

First of all, let me say this book is very short, and may perhaps be meant as a teaser, which may negate what I am about to say. BUT...I thought it could have been so much better. Adonn's idea isn't all that unique, but could be very fun in a sort of high brow vampire-slayer sort of way. However, he just didn't make me feel it. The characters were undeveloped (see disclaimer) and one character (who Adonn admits is his favorite) is unlikeable. I believe he is supposed to be cocky and charming (just my type) but he doesn't quite let us see the charm. Instead, we simply are to assume he's likeable because Adonn keeps telling us so. I find myself curious to see if the next book might be better, but I won't go out of my way to read it.

The Eyes that See written by Chris Adonn is a prequel to the Balancer Chronicles. It provides some back story to the Chronicles. I absolutely loved this book. It had the traditional fantasy creatures but also a nice twist of originality, a new breed of supernatural. Never having read or heard of the Balancer Chronicles I look forward to reading them now that I have read the prequel. If you are a fan of fantasy then you will love this book.

I really liked the idea of Balancers and the role they play in keeping the supernatural world a secret from humans. I am looking forward to see where Chris will go from here.

I enjoyed this novella about the Balancers, but I have to say it was not long enough. I am so looking forward to another book in the series, this story has just given me a taste of what to look forward to. I was happy to see Wolf again and I have to say that Chris Adonn writes in such a way that you want to see more of the characters and more of the stories of the Balancers.I have to admit that I read the first book of the series before I read this short taste of the world of the Balancers and I know that I will not be disappointed with the rest of the series. The Balancers make sure that the supernaturals do not run out of control and expose the world of supernaturals to the world of humans. There are some humans that know about supernaturals and believe that there are a group of supernaturals that keep the rest of the world in Balances, but they have no proof - or do some of them? The Eyes that See is this group of humans, and this is a story that you should read, its short and gives a good taste of world of the Balancers.

Truly an interesting and fast-paced urban fantasy novella! Despite the few typos, I quite enjoyed reading this and am looking forward to finding out more about the Balancers!

The Eyes that see is a short story that introduces you to a secret society that tracks supernatural beings. It was a quick read, but smacked a little of Anne Rices novels that have a similar society. If you enjoy books about vampires, werewolves, and other supernatural beings; then this is a enjoyable quick read to get you ready for his full length novel.

Prequels are a great way of introducing a story and its characters to the reader. And even if you've read the book itself it's nice to get your hands on some additional reading material. In my case I haven't read "Legacy" yet, but it is on my TBR list. This short book jumps right into the action, and it's kind of a shame the book stops after its four chapters, but maybe that's very much intentional. While I somehow totally overlooked the fact that the book fits into the fantasy / paranormal corner (which isn't really my preferred kind of genre) with vampires the so called Balancers, I must admit that I liked what I read about the universe that Chris Adonn created. It's fast paced, with a fascinating premise, and will hook you from the start, which is definitely very promising for the actual novel. So it's safe to say I'm glad that I have "Legacy" available for dipping deeper into the world of the Balancers. In short: A wonderful little prelude to the Balancer Chronicles!

The Eyes That See by Chris Adonn is a prequel to the Balancer Chronicles. If those who are unfamiliar with the Chronicles, they are an urban fantasy series - with a unique twist. The world imagined by Chris Adonn contains vampires, and hags, and supernatural creatures of all sorts; but also an immortal race which exists alongside humans, and this race is the Balancers. The Balancers have been created to keep the supernatural elements in the world in check, and they live their long lives battling supernatural creatures, or humans who are trying to expose supernatural creatures to the rest of the world. The Balancers live a human life, generally without realizing that they are any different from anyone else, but when they die they are reborn as Balancers and are then immortal. The author has done a beautiful job of world-building, and it is easy to visualize the world and accept it as reality. The Eyes That See, a prequel to the series, revolves around a secret society (called "The Eyes That See"), which believes in supernatural beings. One of their members, Frederick, also believes that there is another type of being, a Balancer, which exists to keep the supernatural species in check. His belief is vindicated when his protege, Adam, manages to obtain evidence of their existence. But Frederick's superiors are strangely unhappy about the news...and Adam & Frederick are now in danger. This is a short prequel, really just providing some back story to the Chronicles. The world-building is good, and the series shows great promise.

This was a great Novella. I read the story in one sitting and really enjoyed the plot and the characterization and it was a good background for Legacy (which I have already started).

This was an enjoyable prequel to The Balancer series. I like the concept of those called Balancers and am interested to see how they interface with other supernatural beings. It wasn't really long enough for me to gain any affinity (or lack thereof) for the main characters. In fact, the main character, who is supposed to be the most well-liked central player, was a annoying to me! To me he came off as arrogant and just not that likable yet. However, I'm expecting I'll get to like him as I get to know him better.I have to agree with the previous reviewer, though. I kept hearing the characters voices as being educated, sophisticated men, especially because of their "advanced" age. The dialog would fit with this, and then all of a sudden the work "gonna", rather than "going to" would be thrown in, for example. This is my prejudice (partially because I'm a former English teacher) and hopefully, it won't ruin my enjoyment of the first installment of the series. All in all, this was a worthwhile introduction to what I hope will be an interesting series.

The Eyes that See by Chris Adonn was a primmer of 43 pages to introduce characters in a series that is being written. I thought it was simple, cookie cutter vampire book with no "gotcha" beginning. I will not read any more. However there may be hope many writers improve along the way.

Interesting short story, nice start of a series. I am currently reading "Legacy" which is the first book of the series. I may not have read "Legacy" after reading this story, though I did like the story I didn't think it was that great. I am very glad I started the series.

Okay, I'm hooked. My biggest complaints are: a) It's too short (yes, I know it is supposed to be a short prequel to the Balancer series but I'm into instant gratification)andb) I'd like to be a member of the Eyes That See but that probably isn't possible!Chris Adonn has created some very interesting characters, all of whom I'd love to get to know better. The Eyes That See is quirky at times, humorous, and definitely makes you think about the nature of friendship. If the entire series is as good as the prequel, readers are in for a page-turning time indeed.I'm adding Chris Adonn to my list of new authors to keep track of.

Who or what is there to keep all the paranormal nasties (Vampires, Werewolves, Ghosties, Sirens, etc) in the world at check? What stops them from going on a rampage, making front page headlines and causing mass panic throughout human society? In Chris Adonn’s story, The Eyes that See, it is a highly evolved and secretive race called the Balancers. A race so secretive that to learn of them means death. The Eyes that See, released in March 2011, is a prelude to Chris Adonn’s Balancer Series. Where the supernatural world is watched over by The Eyes that See, an ancient secret society in existence since the 5th century BC; it is their job to watch and document all supernatural beings. Adam Smith a fledgling research member of The Eyes that See, has discovered indisputable proof of a new undocumented supernatural race. Fredrick Bradfield, head of the South African Division and Adam’s benefactor has been searching for proof all his life that Balancers actually exists, a supernatural race that keeps the worse of the supernatural creatures from exposing paranormal beings to humankind. Together, Adam and Fredrick enter a world where such knowledge is taboo; dark secrets are exposed threatening the ancient organization with ruin and meet the secret that is required to silence them. Being that the story was a prelude to a larger work of fiction, the book was a fast read; the story line was well written and guided you through the character interaction at a good clip, keeping you involved in the plot of the tale. The lack of descriptive narrative on each of the characters physical forms left the characters half formed, leaving it up to the reader to decide how they looked; there was also a large lack of description of scenery and setting which detracted from the short tale giving it a feel of being unfinished and rushed. Though the character’s personalities did come through the way they spoke making it easy to see their quirkiness. The premise of an “immortal policing race” was intriguing enough to keep me reading to the end to see how it all sorted out. I found the ending a bit disappointing considering the ominous over tone of taboo and threat of death weaved through the story; how no one was allowed to be aware of the existence of the Balancers. The manner in which the conflict was resolved at the end was quaint and extremely anti-climatic. But considering that this was a prelude to a greater work and the storyline interests me I will crack the cover of Legacy - Book One of the Balancer Chronicles, in hopes that Chris Adonn has put a bit more time in character development and Scenery description.

As a preview to the Balancer Chronicles, this definitely left me wanting more. I am hooked by the plot line of the balancers being around to keep the mythical creatures in check. I will definitely be checking out the first novel.

A short book that introduces the idea of 'balancers'- creatures that exist to prevent the discovery of mythological beings such as sirens and vampires. The book is a perfect prequel; it whets the appetite and makes me believe that the Balancer Chronicles will be a pretty good read. However, in such a short text is was difficult to gain much insight and depth of the characters. I assume this is to be addressed in the full length novel, as Chris Adonn can clearly write well and has a good eye for a tale.

I received this book in a Member Giveaway. It is a very interesting and creative story. I enjoyed it very much, and enjoy the way Chris Adonn puts her ideas into words. Aside from a few minor grammatical errors, the story is perfect! It held my interest the entire time and leaves me wanting to read more - exactly how a good read is supposed to!

A short introduction to the first full novel of the The Balancer Chronicles. Two members of a secret society that keeps tabs on "mythical" beings confirms that balancers, beings who keep the other mythical creatures in check, do in fact exist. This knowledge, however, could potentially put their lives in danger. This definitely has me interested in the first full novel.
