Author

Sarah Billington

Sarah Billington is an Australian writer and editor who likes to write stories with love, laughs, suspense and zombies. Sometimes all in the same story. Her favouritest thing to write about are those horrendously awkward moments that come with being a teenager. Or a human being. Sarah was extremely accident-prone and klutzy as a kid and teen, so her cup runneth over with experiences of horrendously awkward moments to draw from in her writing. Thankfully, she has grown out of her klutziness. Mostly. She is, however, still an embarrassment. She loves a variety of random things, which include Swing Dancing, Ice Hockey, Roller Derby and is a bit obsessive about paranormal investigation shows and channel E!.

    This was hideous.

‘Go on, do it,’ Carla nudged me in the crowd, nodding toward the boy.

    I felt hideous.

‘He’s hot, you’ve gotta go,’ she glanced from me to him and back at me with frustration.

    I looked hideous.

‘Jess, are you listening to me?’

I was just all out hideous. A great lump of hideousity. I’d never felt like this before. Life was so much easier when boys were stupid. Who cared what boys thought, anyway? They were noisy and smelly, and punched you in the arm and ran away laughing with their friends.

I didn’t have a problem with the way I looked until I started thinking that boys were looking at me too. And not just looking at me - thinking about me.

Actually, no, the day my boobs appeared was pretty much the end of me thinking I looked okay. When I was eleven, one day I’d be mistaken for my brother wearing a baseball cap, the next day these big soft balloons with no purpose – well not yet, anyway – were attached to my chest, staring at everyone like headlights. And they sure got the attention, like headlights. Especially from boys. Suddenly eye contact was being made with my nipples.

    Was it hot in here?

‘Jess, he’s cute, he wants you, why don’t you want to go over there?’

It didn’t feel safe over there. I looked around the dim
