She runs her fingers along the cool, rusty, metal bonnet of her 1993 Toyota ute, and a slight smile spreads across her face as she chews her grape-flavoured gum. Almost done now, one final touch and she will have finally done it. All those years of people looking down on her because she was a girl, because they didn’t think she was good enough. This will show them.
She can’t take her eyes off the scarlet red car, as she walks to her workbench at the edge of her garage. Wiping the oil on her hands off onto her overalls, she picks up the final piece of machinery, beaming with pride. After six months of planning and finding parts and building, it all comes down to this moment. She walks back to the car and sits in the driver’s seat. She places the piece of machinery on the dashboard and ties her long blonde hair into a messy bun. She hates it when her hair gets in the way. She
