      Although the book held my interest, I truly could not understand the animal cruelty Alera showed toward animals with her "baiting" them for pleasure. Of course I realize things were different back then but the cruelty did not fit in with her compassionate and sensitive nature. If that side of her was removed I would have rated the book a five star!
